Meet Connor: professional supervisor, part-time cuddle machine, and full-time believer that your blanket is actually his blanket. 🧑

This 9-year-old orange tabby likes to observe the room before joining in. We prefer to call it "excellent judgment." But once he trusts you? He's all affection, all the time, with zero regard for personal space (or dignity).

Here's the catch: Connor comes as a package deal with his calico sister, Caitlyn. These two are bonded and need to be adopted together because some friendships aren't meant to be broken up.

Today, on Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day, we pause to honor two souls who will forever be part of the Ruff Patches family: Leah and Romeo. 🌈

Over the past year, we said goodbye to these two beloved animals, but saying goodbye never means letting go. Their little habits, their quiet comforts, the way they nudged their way into our hearts and changed us for the better... all of it remains.

If you've loved and lost a pet, we're holding space for you today, too. Whether your goodbye was last week or many years ago, your grief is welcome here, and so is your love.

Share their name, a photo, or a favorite memory in the comments. Let's remember them together. ❀️

πŸ“‹ AN OFFICIAL MEMO FROM JEAN GREY

Please be advised that you do not have to accomplish everything today. Rest is productive. Snacks are essential.

Per Jean's official recommendations:
🐾 Find somewhere soft
🐾 Release any unnecessary responsibilities
🐾 Accept all available snacks
🐾 Rest until further notice

Compliance is strongly encouraged. Jean herself has been field-testing this protocol all afternoon and reports excellent results.

Addendum: Jean Grey is currently available for adoption alongside her bonded sister, Bereet. If you'd like a certified rest consultant in your home full-time, we'd love to introduce you.

Like this post and follow along to keep up with Jean, Bereet, and the rest of our rescue animals

The complaints have been reviewed. The verdict is in. πŸΎβš–οΈ

Cats everywhere have formally filed grievances against vet visits -citing carrier confinement, unsolicited ear inspections, and the deeply traumatic experience of being weighed in public. After careful consideration... all complaints have been denied. Treats, however, have been approved.

Happy ! πŸŽ‰

In all seriousness, regular vet exams are one of the most important things you can do for your cat's health - even when they act like it's the end of the world. Here's what to keep in mind:

🐱 Most adult cats need annual wellness exams
🐱 Senior cats (7+) should visit every 6 months
🐱 Cats with chronic conditions may need more frequent checkups
🐱 Cats are pros at hiding illness. Subtle changes matter!

That last one is important. Between appointments, pay attention to shifts in your cat's appetite, weight, litter-box habits, grooming, activity, or behavior. And let your vet know if anything seems off. You know your cat better than anyone.

Introducing the Ruff Patches permanent residents: Manga, Imari, Manawa, Andy, Ayesha, and Charity.

Their daily schedule is, frankly, grueling. Losing important thoughts. Supervising work they have zero intention of helping with. Requesting emergency snacks approximately twelve minutes after breakfast. It's a lot.

These are the animals for whom a traditional adoption wasn't the right ending. Some needed extra understanding, specialized care, or simply a safe place where they could be completely themselves. So Ruff Patches became their permanent home.

They don't pay rent or follow instructions (we have tried, repeatedly, and unsuccessfully). But they fill our days with laughter, companionship, and a truly absurd amount of love.

Sometimes rescue success looks like an adoption. Sometimes it looks like realizing you're already home. Safe, loved, and free to be wonderfully weird. Exactly as every rescue animal deserves. 🐾

Caitlyn would like you to know she comes with a brother. His name is Connor, and he's non-negotiable. 🐾

Caitlyn is the star of this post, but she'll be the first to tell you that Connor comes with her, and she won't hear otherwise. These two have been side by side for all 9 years of their lives, and that's exactly how it's going to stay.

Caitlyn is a calico/tabby mix with big opinions, effortless charm, and a face that somehow looks both deeply concerned and completely unbothered at the same time. She's playful, affectionate, and the kind of cat who makes every room feel like hers. Because it is. And Connor? He's her sweet, easygoing buff tabby brother who thinks Caitlyn hung the moon, and honestly, we're not going to argue with him.

And yes, they're 9, which Caitlyn considers a feature, not a flaw. You skip the chaos years entirely and go straight to two cats who know exactly who they are, what they want, and how they feel about your life choices. Caitlyn will supervise. Connor will hide until you are done. Together, they will make your home infinitely better.

A package deal. A matched set. A bonded pair who will not be separated. And frankly, why would you want to? 🐱🐱

Think Caitlyn might be the one? She is. And so is Connor. These two come as a bonded pair, which means when you adopt Caitlyn, her beloved brother Connor comes with her. Non-negotiable, and honestly, the best deal you'll ever get. 🐱🐱

Visit ruffpatches.org/adoptions for more information or to apply to adopt this perfect pair!

There are so many little things to love about cats. 🐱

Like the way a scrap of green plastic becomes the most treasured toy in the house. Or the tiny hello of a tail raised just for you. The very serious supervision. The naps in positions that shouldn't be comfortable but somehow are. The little chirps and trills that feel like a whole conversation. And the quiet comfort of a warm cat settling into your lap like it's exactly where they belong.

Every one of them is different. A different personality, a different story, a completely different way of showing love.

Thanks to people like you, we get to know these cats, care for them, and watch them become their true selves. That's the real magic. And none of it happens without our community behind us. πŸ’—

Life is simply better with cats.

Tell us in the comments: what's the little thing your cat does that made you fall in love? 🐾

Twelve years ago, Romeo came to Ruff Patches after someone called us, upset. Kids in a trailer park were throwing rocks at a cat. That cat was Romeo.

He was maybe two years old back then - a scrappy, unneutered street cat with big jowls, a few battle scars, and a whole lot of attitude. He had zero interest in being anybody's polished little house cat. Rough around the edges, sure. But underneath it all, he had a heart of gold.

Nobody lined up to adopt the scarred, opinionated tomcat from the streets. So Romeo stayed. From the very first day, Romeo wasn't just a rescue to us. He was family.

He could be gloriously grumpy. If you stood up too fast, or dared to stop petting him before he'd decided you were finished, he'd reach out with a paw - claws very much included - just to let you know your service had not met his standards.

But then a new kitten would show up, scared and tiny, and we'd catch this same tough old street cat curled around them, grooming them, watching over them like the world's most devoted foster dad. He never lost that soft spot.

In his prime, Romeo basically ran the place. He had opinions. He had standards. He had presence. Everyone knew whose house it really was.

As he got older, he softened. He got cuddlier. Every night after dinner, he'd climb into my lap and settle in like that was the only place in the world he was ever meant to be.

Some of you saw our earlier post about the tumor in his abdomen. We chose not to do a biopsy. It wouldn't have changed how we treated it, and we couldn't stand to put him through anything he didn't need.

On Friday, July 31, Romeo stopped eating. That wasn't like him at all. He was having trouble walking, seemed far away, and started purring nonstop, even in his sleep, something that can mean a cat is in pain. We upped his pain medication to keep him comfortable through the night, and we made the decision we'd been dreading. Romeo was telling us it was time.

And then, of course, Saturday morning he asked for breakfast, ate every bite, and acted like his old self again. They really do know how to make us second-guess ourselves right at the end.

But we knew. We knew we didn't want him to hurt anymore.

His favorite volunteer, Andrea, and I took him to North Valley Veterinary Center, where Romeo drifted peacefully off to sleep. We are so grateful to Dr. Ortega and the whole team there for the kindness, compassion, and gentle care they gave him over the last 12 years and in his final moments. It meant everything to us.

Romeo was a loved and important member of our family. A street cat. A foster dad. A grumpy old man. A lap cat. A household manager. Truly one of a kind.

We miss you, Romy. We will never, ever forget you.
