Ruff Patches is an all volunteer-run animal welfare and advocacy organization. Ruff Patches is dedicated to keeping pets in homes! We provide food to low income pet owners, provide behavior support and veterinary support when we have the funds. Of course, we also rescue homeless animals and find them new, loving homes. We hold adoptions at Petsmart at 47th St.

🎃 The Ruff Patches Halloween Costume Contest did not go as planned.
The idea was simple. Dress up a few of our rescue cats, snap some cute photos, and crown a winner. Easy, right?

The cats read the plan and politely declined. Then less politely.
We offered treats. We offered prizes. We offered eternal internet fame. Not one contestant agreed to wear a costume. Luckily, they showed up with enough attitude to improvise. 😂

🦇 Watson as Tiny Villain
No costume needed. Just one long, unblinking stare that sent the judges to double-check the door locks.

🕸️ Charity as The Spirit of Halloween
Orange, black, and deeply unimpressed. Honestly, she's been in character since the day she arrived.

👑 Ayesha as Victorian Aristocrat
Born for luxury. Let down by the staff. Still waiting to hear why her portrait isn't hanging above the fireplace.

Caitlyn was supposed to host. She'd like it on record that she never agreed to this and will not be taking questions.

🏆 And the winner is... everyone.

The contestants held a quick vote, scrapped the judging process, gave themselves first place, and demanded their prizes immediately. Andy certified the results. We're pretty sure he has no idea what happened, but he signed off with total confidence.

That wraps up our first annual costume contest:
Zero costumes.
Zero cooperation.
More complaints than we can count.

And somehow, it was still perfect.

Every one of these cats came to us needing a safe place to land. Now they're bossy, dramatic, gloriously stubborn, and completely themselves. That's exactly what we want for them. We wouldn't trade a single glare. ❤️

🚨 BREAKING NEWS: National Cat Day has been canceled.

Not by us. By the cats.

They love the idea. They just have one small problem with it: ONE day?! 😾

Caitlyn filed a formal objection before we'd even finished our coffee. Manawa has been yelling about it since breakfast, with no plans to stop anytime soon.

And Sherlock, ever the professional, quietly slid a counteroffer across the table:
🐾 365 days of appreciation
🐾 Unlimited snacks, no questions asked
🐾 Mandatory lap availability
🐾 The immediate removal of all closed doors

We tried to explain that National Cat Day is about celebrating cats and helping the millions still waiting for homes. They agreed that sounded lovely. Then they asked about the snacks again.

Management is reviewing the proposal. (Management is losing.)
Here's the thing, though. Under all the drama, they're kind of right.
Every cat deserves to feel safe, loved, and wanted. Not just today. Every day.

Some of ours are still waiting for that. Bereet and Jean Grey are bonded sisters who have spent years hoping someone will choose them, together. Bereet is the quiet, cuddle-under-a-blanket type. Jean Grey is the curious one who checks everything out first. They're different in all the best ways, and they belong together. They just need one home with room for two.

🎃 AYESHA'S HALLOWEEN HORROR STORY

Lock the doors and dim the lights. What you're about to read is not for the faint of heart.

It was a normal afternoon at Ruff Patches. Ayesha was sprawled across her pink bed, minding her own royal business, when a human looked her in the eye and said...

"No."

Nobody remembers what she asked for. Everyone remembers the face. (See photo. Viewer discretion advised.)

And the horror didn't stop there:
🕷️ Her treats arrived a full eight seconds late
🕸️ A human shifted mid-nap without submitting a formal request
🦇 Someone suggested she'd had "enough attention" for one day
🎃 Management still insists this is a rescue, not a five-star resort

Ayesha is now demanding a written apology, back pay in treats, and the permanent retirement of the word "no."

Here's the twist: she'll probably get all three. She usually does. 🧡

Ayesha is a permanent resident here, which means she's stuck with us for life. We wouldn't have it any other way. Every glare, every complaint, and every dramatic sigh is proof that she feels safe, loved, and completely at home. She acts like she runs the place, and honestly, she might.

Cats like Ayesha get to be this gloriously spoiled because of people like you who cheer them on.

💌 SINGLE CAT SEEKS LONG-TERM COMMITMENT. MUST BE WILLING TO TAKE TWO.

Meet Bereet, a beautiful, slightly introverted lady who is officially back on the market. The adoption market, technically, but let's not get hung up on details.

Her ideal match enjoys quiet evenings, cozy blankets, and zero pressure to leave the house. Ever.

A little about Bereet:
🐾 Takes her naps seriously and her beds even more seriously
🐾 Prefers Netflix and cuddles over wild nights out
🐾 Considers hiding under a blanket a valid social activity
🐾 Takes her time to warm up, then becomes your biggest fan

That last one matters most. Bereet is a gentle soul who isn't as pushy as the other cats, so she won't fall for you in five minutes. Give her a little patience and a soft place to land, and she'll choose you. Once she does, she's all in.

Bereet is FIV-positive, which sounds scarier than it is. Most FIV+ cats live long, happy lives with an indoor home, regular vet checkups, and lots of love. Bereet already had all three on her wish list. She's never been "too much." She's just been waiting for someone who reads past the label.

Oh, and one small detail she left off her profile... her sister is moving in, too. 😹 Jean Grey is Bereet's bonded sister and her outgoing, curious sidekick, and these two go everywhere together. So that's two sweet girls, one adoption, and double the love.

💤Being in management is exhausting. Just ask Manawa.

While I spent the evening working on Ruff Patches business, Manawa graciously volunteered to supervise.

Her contributions included:

🐾 Reviewing absolutely nothing.
🐾 Offering zero constructive feedback.
🐾 Occupying valuable workspace.
🐾 Falling asleep approximately three minutes into her shift.

Meanwhile, I continued working under what I can only describe as extremely relaxed supervision. 😂

Despite her questionable work ethic, Manawa has awarded herself an outstanding performance review and requested a substantial raise in treats.

I'd file a complaint with HR, but apparently she's in charge of that department, too. 🙄

All kidding aside, there's something pretty wonderful about having this little girl curled up beside me while I work. Even when the to-do list seems endless, she reminds me why we do what we do. ❤️

Anyone else have a supervisor who sleeps through their entire shift but still expects full compensation?😹

🚨 BREAKING: The Ruff Patches Department of Unreasonable Demands has concluded its emergency budget meeting, and the results are in.

Andy, Manga, Castiel, Manawa, Sherlock, and Jean Grey have unanimously rejected all proposed spending limits. Their counter-demands? Unlimited food, premium litter, and "more toys" (no further specifics provided, though Castiel was very clear that his current toy is still perfectly good, thank you very much).

🚨 AUDITION RESULTS ARE IN 🚨

Watson tried out for the role of Ominous Halloween Cat this year, and... well, let's just say he didn't get the part. 🖤

Instead of a menacing soul-stare, he got distracted by a bird. Instead of summoning spirits, he summoned treats. And instead of looking terrifying, he just looked really, really cozy.

The good news? While Watson is hopeless at being spooky, he's exceptionally qualified for a much better role: Beloved Family Cat. At 4 years old, this calm, sweet, and playful boy is ready to trade Halloween auditions for a forever home with comfy sleeping spots, regular playtime, and all the affection he can handle.

Ruff Patches is proud to announce our newest Employee Training Program, led personally by Andy - permanent resident, senior supervisor, and world-class supervisor of snacks.

Course Objectives:
📵 Put down the phone
✋ Maintain steady petting contact (minimum 20 minutes)
📋 Accept constructive performance reviews (usually delivered via slow blink)
🍑 Report promptly to the Butt-Scratch Department when summoned

Unauthorized stopping will result in a formal incident report and an extremely disappointed stare.

Andy's been a beloved part of our sanctuary family for years, and while he's not up for adoption (he's earned permanent tenure!), he still needs your support to keep living his best supervisory life.

Ayesha does not "sit." She holds court. 👑

One paw extended like she's waiting for someone to bring her grapes, her eyes fixed on a subject far beneath her (that would be us), Ayesha has reviewed her pink throne and found it acceptable. Barely. The rest of the staff (meaning everyone) is currently on probation.

If you have a cat, you already know this energy. The 3 a.m. announcements. The disappointed stare when dinner arrives four minutes late. The chosen spot that must never be sat in by a human again. We see you, fellow servants.

Here's the happy part: Ayesha is one of our permanent residents, which means she'll never be up for adoption. She's safe, spoiled, and reigning here for life. Exactly as she believes she deserves.
