Recovery isn't always glamorous, but every little victory deserves to be celebrated. ❤️

Padme has been hard at work recovering from her cruciate surgery, and these photos capture one of her recent physical therapy sessions with our wonderful veterinary technician, Kate. From carefully guided exercises to plenty of encouragement (and a few tasty treats!), every session helps Padme build strength, improve her mobility, and get one step closer to feeling like herself again.

While this is just one snapshot of her journey, it also offers a glimpse into the care that happens behind the scenes every day at Mackenzie's Animal Sanctuary. Healing takes time, teamwork, patience, and a whole lot of love. Whether it's rehabilitation after surgery, medical treatment, behavior support, or simply helping a dog learn to trust again, our staff works tirelessly to give every dog the best opportunity to thrive.

Because our goal isn't just to help dogs find homes—it's to make sure they're as healthy, confident, and ready as possible when the right family comes along.

Padme has been an incredible patient, and we couldn't be prouder of how far she's come. 💙 We know her future family is going to be lucky to have such a resilient, determined girl.

👑 Attention, lovers of big personalities... Khaleesi is accepting applications for her kingdom. 👑

If you've ever looked at a dog and thought, "I want one with opinions," allow us to introduce Khaleesi.

With her signature side-eye, fluffy coat, and just the right amount of sass, Khaleesi has mastered the art of making everyone laugh. She has that playful, mischievous spirit that so many people adore, but underneath all that charisma is a girl who loves to snuggle with her favorite humans.

Khaleesi is looking for a home where she can be the queen of the castle. She'd prefer not to share her throne with other dogs, but she's perfectly content having feline subjects. Because she likes her boundaries respected, she'd do best with older children or teenagers who understand that sometimes a girl just needs a little personal space.

She's funny. She's expressive. She's full of life. And she's ready to find someone who appreciates every bit of her wonderfully goofy personality.

Cletus Update ❤️

First, thank you all so much for the outpouring of love, prayers, and kind words for our sweet old man today. We truly appreciate every single one of you.

The good news is that Cletus is stable and doing okay. While that doesn't mean we're out of the woods yet, it's encouraging news after such a scary morning.

At this point, Cletus' care team is still working to determine exactly what's causing his symptoms. He's continuing to show some concerning neurological signs, so additional testing is underway, including bloodwork, a blood pressure check, and a urinalysis, to help narrow down the cause. While there are still several possible explanations, we're hopeful the testing will give us a clearer picture of what's going on.

Because Cletus still needs close monitoring and we don't have overnight staff at the sanctuary, he'll be staying at the emergency hospital tonight while his care team continues his evaluation. If additional specialized neurological care is needed, we'll make sure he gets exactly what he needs.

Please continue sending Cletus all the love, good vibes, and positive thoughts you can. This sweet boy has captured the hearts of so many people over the years, and we know he's got an incredible community rooting for him.

🏝️✈️ BALI HAS LANDED AT HIS FOREVER DESTINATION! ✈️🏝️

The final member of our vacation puppy crew has officially found his forever home! 🌺🐾

After watching Fiji, Bora Bora, Maldives, and Zanzibar all head off on their own adventures, it's finally Bali’s turn to pack his bags and start his next chapter as Oakley. And we couldn’t have picked a better destination for him! 💙

Oakley is heading home with one of our amazing MAS volunteer families, who are beyond excited to love him, spoil him, and give him the life he deserves. We couldn’t be happier for Oakley and his new family as they begin this adventure together! 🐶🌴

From puppy paws to forever paws, Oakley’s journey has officially reached paradise. Congratulations, sweet boy — your forever vacation has begun! ☀️❤️

🎉 One year home, forever to go! ❤️🐾

Paris is living her best spoiled life, soaking up all the love she deserves. She’s even started winning over her kitty sister, although apparently the occasional reminder of “please be quiet so I can finish my after-nap nap” is still necessary. 😂

She has become quite the homebody. Walks? Well... according to Paris, two blocks is plenty. 😂 Her dad says, “Despite her DNA test saying 100% Pittie back four generations, I still swear there is a hound in there,” because the second Paris catches an interesting scent, she’s nose-down and fully committed to investigating every last clue (even if it takes a few extra minutes!). 🐾

But she has made so many new friends, including her grandparents’ dogs and cat, and has her grandparents completely wrapped around her paw.

As her dad put it, “Now I know how every parent feels when their kid doesn't want to leave grandma's.” ❤️

Thank you to Paris’ family for sharing this wonderful update with us. We love seeing our alumni happy, loved, and living the lives they were always meant to have. 🏡🐶

We have an urgent update to share about our sweet senior boy, Cletus. ❤️

During morning rounds today, our kennel manager found Cletus in medical distress. He had become very ill overnight and was showing concerning neurological symptoms, including abnormal eye movements and significant difficulty keeping his balance. He was immediately rushed to the emergency veterinary hospital for evaluation and treatment.

Right now, we're still waiting for answers. While we're remaining hopeful, we know the next several hours are important, and we'd be incredibly grateful if you could keep Cletus in your thoughts. He's touched the hearts of so many people over the years, and we know he'll have an army of supporters rooting for him today.

It’s hard to believe that someone could look at this big, goofy, 80-pound smiley boy and ever think he didn’t deserve the world. But Hector’s story started with a horrifying act of cruelty — he was thrown from a car onto the expressway and left behind.

Despite everything he has been through, Hector has never stopped believing in people. He may need a little time to trust you, but once you’ve earned his heart, you’ll discover the absolute goofball hiding underneath. Hector is a certified himbo, a professional baby boy, and a total lover who just wants someone to call his own. 💖

Hector is the kind of dog who makes you laugh every day. He has the most iconic smile, the biggest personality, and if there is water nearby… you better believe he’s ready to go swimming! 🌊

Hector is looking for a very special home that understands him. He would do best as the only dog, and he’s definitely more of a homebody who prefers a quiet life over a house full of visitors. He may not be the perfect match for every family — but we know there is someone out there who has been waiting for a dog exactly like him.

🚨 Unexpected resident found at Mackenzie's Animal Sanctuary... 👀

People sometimes ask why we're called an Animal Sanctuary when we're "just" a dog rescue.

Well... today our resident count briefly included one very confused guest. 💚

One of our kennel attendants noticed one of our residents, Duke, completely hyperfocused on something in his outdoor kennel. Naturally, she went to investigate before Duke could.

That's when she discovered the culprit: a tiny garter snake. 🐍

Thankfully, she was able to scoop up our slithery little visitor before Duke could turn him into an afternoon snack. The snake was then safely relocated from Duke's personal yard to a very secure Dog-Free Zone, where he could continue his day in peace.

No snakes were harmed, Duke was mildly disappointed that his exciting discovery disappeared, and our staff can officially add "wildlife relocation specialist" to the ever-growing list of job duties.

We may be a dog rescue, but if an unexpected animal crosses our path, we'll always do our best to make sure it gets where it needs to go safely. After all, caring about animals doesn't stop at dogs. 🐶🐍

💖 Pupdate Time: Dio (formerly Bora Bora)! 🏠

"Dio is doing great, we love her so much. She is so playful but is lazy in the mornings. We are working on potty training and she's doing really well. She is the perfect pup for our family."

😊 It sounds like she's settling into family life beautifully and is keeping everyone wrapped around her paw. We'd say Dio is enjoying every minute of being a beloved family pup. 💙

We love watching our former residents thrive in the homes they were always meant to find. ❤️
