HOT WEATHER TIPS TO KEEP YOUR PETS HEALTHY!
1. Make sure your pet has access to fresh water!
2. Do not leave pets in a car alone! On an 80Degree day in just 20 min your car can heat to 109degrees!
3. Do not let pets linger on the sidewalk or asphalt!
4. Animals with flat faces are more susceptible to heat stroke! Dogs such as pugs, bulldogs and frenchies should not be outside for longer than 10-15 minutes! Do not exercise your pets outdoors during this time!
5. Watch your elderly dogs and those with heart or lung disease for any distress!
If you suspect your dog is having a heat stroke call your veterinarian immediately!

It's Heartworm Awareness Month!
*Almost 3 in 5 veterinarians (59%) said heartworm rates had “stayed the same, with the remainder divided between those who saw rates increase (19%) and decrease (22%). Only 10% reported seeing no heartworm cases.
*While weather was seen as a factor in changes to heartworm rates, veterinarians see “human” factors, including poor compliance and heartworm-positive dogs moving into their practice areas as even more significant.

❤ If you have a new puppy, start him
or her on heartworm prevention by
the time he or she is 8 weeks old.
Medication dosages vary by weight, so
you and your veterinarian will need to
adjust the dosage as your pup grows.
❤ Always give your dog a proven, FDAapproved heartworm preventive.
❤ Give your dog’s preventive on the
same day of the month, every
month—it’s the best way to create a
healthy habit. If you forget or give the
medication late, you could put your
dog at risk of infection. So be sure to
tell your veterinarian if this happens.
❤ It’s almost impossible to predict
when you will see the first—or
last—mosquito of the season. Keep
it simple and maintain your dog on
prevention year-round.
