Because he cannot see, Baby Ray won’t follow us like Odie the piglet during chores. Instead, he gets special treatment and is transported around the farm in his personal cart. Gustave got jealous and insisted on getting a ride too.

Yesterday was a truly wonderful day at Dominifarm! Friendship is indeed a precious gift. ♥️🐾 Providing care for over 75 rescue animals and maintaining their living spaces clean is hard work, but it is incredibly fulfilling to know that we are making a profound difference in their lives.

Taking responsibility for a new life is a huge task, especially when the animal has special needs and is totally dependent on you. Because Baby Ray cannot see, he will need special accommodations to stay safely contained and protected from dangers. For now, I'm his mom, his shield, and his eyes. However, as he matures and becomes more independent, I won't be able to be by his side all the time. Once he's ready to live outside, he will be paired with another animal who will teach him how to be a goat and will guide him through life. I'll always be there for him, but in the long run, animals always do better with their p*ers and thrive among other animals.

4/25 UPDATE: A heartfelt THANK YOU from baby Ray! 💗🍼🐐

Will you help us raise Baby Ray?
A compassionate local breeder asked for our help about a special needs baby goat. Baby Ray is two weeks old and completely blind, having been born with a closed eye and a beautiful blue eye that cannot see. Other than that, he's very healthy and a little glutton. We will need a few supplies, such as baby bottles, milk replacer, diaper pads or washable pads, laundry detergent, and new or gently used fleece blankets. He'll stay inside the home until the nighttime temperatures warm up before we pair him with another animal who will be his eyes. He is a huge Nubian goat, which means he'll need a lot of milk for 8-10 weeks

On cold mornings, Maesa the mule enjoys lying on top of the massive compost pile. The decomposition generates heat that our elderly animals utilize as a natural heating system. It’s a fabulous method for warming up their old bones. ♥️🐴

It was shearing day for all the fleeced animals at Dominifarm. This is quite a big event at the sanctuary, as we have to corral the ten sheep, alpaca, and cashmere goat, then confine them in a smaller area before the shearers from Lusk Family Shearing arrive.
All animals were successfully caught and received their new summer cut. As there's no power in Daisy's enclosure, the Babydoll sheep had to be transported in a cart to another area for her grooming session. Lady Gaga, the mini mare, was very disappointed at not being included in the beauty makeover.

Herbert the pack mule needed a safe place to retire, while Nacho the donkey had been abandoned on a rental property. These elderly equines had nowhere to go and would never have met each other if they had not ended up at the sanctuary. For many years, Dominifarm has become their refuge, providing a secure and permanent home where they are cherished for their inherent value; here, they can frolic in peace and relish their endearing friendship for the remainder of their lives. Fate brought Leah, Cookie, and Snowy together at Dominifarm.
Leah was raised as a brood ewe, Cookie was orphaned and bottle-fed by her breeder, while Snowy was a family pet who survived a dog attack. They arrived at different times from various locations and eventually settled at Dominifarm. Once they felt secure, they began to open up, their distinct personalities shined, and they learned to trust us. The sheep quickly bonded with their p*ers, formed close friendships, and established their own little family. While we love them and enjoy spending time with them, we strive to minimize our interference in their lives, always providing them with the option to approach us without imposing our presence. We remain mindful that Dominifarm is their sanctuary, not ours. 🐑🐑🐑♥️

Yesterday, one of our amazing neighbors contacted me about donating some ramshorn snails from her freshwater aquarium. I thought it would be a fantastic addition to our koi tank and pig micro pond, as the mollusks are great cleaners, promoting a harmonious environment. Because they eat algae, waste, and fish food, they help balance the ecosystem, reducing the need for chemicals in the water. At Dominfarm, we're all about working in symbiosis with wildlife, embracing the beauty of nature. After listening to the phone message, Misty discovered I was French and gifted me a France hat she brought back from her vacation in France, a heartwarming gesture that touched my heart. Thank you, Misty! ♥️ 🐟 💦 🐌

Our new babydoll sheep Daisy has proven to be a great companion for our horse Finn. All animals that come to Dominifarm are quarantined for a period of time to be sure they are healthy. Daisy arrived at the same time we had to quarantine Finn because of his laminitis flare-up. Once we moved Finn to a more permanent pen, abdicated by our new goat Lord Buck, Daisy got loose and joined the rest of our sheep and horses. But they clearly missed each other's company, so thanks to volunteers Jeff and Cassaundra, we were able to get Daisy in the pen to keep Finn company again. Finn's laminitis seems to be less acute—our farrier recently paid a visit and found his symptoms to be significantly improved from two months ago. 🐴🐑♥️
