The mission of February Star Sanctuary is to rescue, rehabilitate and provide a permanent refuge to cats and horses in need. We help the community through outreach programs to help children develop compassion for rescue animals at a early age. Teaching our children to respect and protect even the smallest among us is one of the most important life lessons we can pass on. Children and animals are t

he most vulnerable members of society, and abuse to both groups is on the rise. Our goals at the Sanctuary are to give the unwanted a home and to teach children compassion. We aim to build a generation of animal advocates one child at a time.

Incredibly sad but I’ve seen so many people wrap lead ropes around their arms and even once I saw somebody do it around their neck!! Horses are big unpredictable animals that get spooked over the smallest thing.

Now accepting sponsors and fosters! 💖 Did you know that nearly every day, we get asked to take in new kittens to our sanctuary? As much as our heart aches for them, as a 501(c)3 nonprofit, the costs to accept these kittens put an enormous strain on our funds and resources, which can also affect our ability to help other animals at our sanctuary. In addition to needing vaccinations, worm treatment and spay/neuter surgeries, many of the kittens that come to our rescue require significant respiratory treatment. 🏥 We know that if we don’t take in such kittens, and other rescues are full, the kittens will likely end up feral, reproduce and further the cat overpopulation crisis in our communities. You can now help us combat this crisis and care for these vulnerable kittens.

If you would like to sponsor a kitten, please click on this link and select “Make a Donation”: 📲 https://februarystarsanctuary.com/how-you-can-help. Once your donation is received, if you would like to come to our sanctuary and interact with your assigned kitten, we would love to see you! 😺 If you don’t live locally, we will send you a picture of the kitten you’re sponsoring. 📸 Any donation amount is appreciated. If you have family and friends who would also love to help a kitten in need, please feel free to share our information.

If you would like to be a kitten foster, please email us at [email protected] or call (410) 370-4402.

Right now, you can help a . 🐎 We currently have 9 horses that you can sponsor. 📲 https://februarystarsanctuary.com/sponsor-a-horse

As a sponsor you can directly interact with the horse, or horses, you choose to sponsor. If you have a favorite horse, which we know many of you do, it's a great way to interact and directly contribute to their care. If you don't yet have a favorite horse, this is a wonderful opportunity to get to know certain horses and get involved at our sanctuary. Through horse sponsorship, you can participate in essential activities such as grooming, feeding and holding for the farrier. 🧼 If your horse is rideable, which many are, you can take them out for a ride! 🏇 And of course, many of our horses up for sponsorship are available for hugs and snuggles! 🤗😘

What does it take to be a sponsor? For only $150/month, you can sponsor a horse! For horses that are rideable, we are asking for an additional $50/month for the opportunity to ride your chosen horse. And of course, if you would like to sponsor more than one horse, you can! 🐴

How will the horse benefit from your sponsorship? In addition to the vital financial impact your sponsorship will make, we believe an important aspect of horse rescue, rehabilitation, rehoming and continued care, is encouraging them to interact with individuals outside of our staff. 💞 We feel that the more people these horses see and get to know, the more love and support they feel.

Incredibly busy Sunday at the farm! Rex and Sam got new shoes, Roxy got clipped, she wasn’t shedding out -last week we got her tested, and she has cushing. One new adult cat intake named Bentley. We have lots of kittens that will be up for adoption very soon. Most of them are boys if you put in an application, please text us. 410-370-4402. We are not super high-tech, and our website is very basic. We do not get notified when applications come in we have to go into Google sheets and check.
With all this being said, expenses are high with so many animals needing care. We love donations of food or monetary donations to help with vet, bills, and other services that we have to provide for these horses, cats & kittens. The best way to donate is right on our website. www.FebruarystarSanctuary.com Thank you

Farriers are a regular necessity in the world of horses. These blacksmiths specialize in equine hoof care and are often the first line of defense in identifying injuries, congenital deformities and shoeing issues. 🧲 Farriers play a crucial role in managing and preventing hoof health problems, lameness, joint issues and more. They may seem common in this day and age, but in ancient times, particularly in Celtic and Saxon cultures, they were believed to be magical. 🧙‍♂️ The god of blacksmithing was said to have a forge in Oxfordshire, England, where a traveler could leave a silver penny and his horse. 🐎 Upon returning, the traveler would find the horse shod and the silver penny gone. Although farriers might not be considered magicians in today’s society, what they do is still pretty special. 🪄

The sizzle of summer is here! 🌞 In honor of the , we’re focusing on some horses that manage to thrive in the harsh heat.🌡When you think of horses in the desert, are likely one of the first breeds that come to mind. 🌅 With evidence dating back 3,500 years, Arabian horses are deeply rooted in modern horse breeds. In fact, Arabian bloodlines are found in nearly every modern breed of riding horse. 🐎 Easily recognized by their distinctive head shape and high tail carriage, Arabians have been spread throughout the world and used to improve other breeds due to their speed, intelligence, endurance, elegance and strong bone structure.

Arabian horses were bred in a desert climate and managed to survive in extreme hot weather. Prized by Bedouins, they were often brought inside family tents for shelter and protection from both the heat and thieves. ⛺️ In addition to their positive physical characteristics, Arabians were popular with Bedouins due to their versatile temperament. They would cooperate with their humans, showing gentleness and sensitivity, while maintaining high spirits and alertness, key for battles and raids.

Often dependent on their humans for shelter, food and water, Arabians needed to have a good relationship with their owners. 💧 Although they have anatomical traits to compensate for the harsh, dry, extreme desert heat, they can only survive without water for approximately 3 days, which is about 5 times fewer than camels. When water and food was hard to come by, Bedouins would give their Arabians camel’s milk and dates. 🐫

Today, they are one of the most popular breeds around the world, including in the United States of America, Canada, Australia, Europe, South America and the Middle East. 🗺 If you have an Arabian horse that you’d like to share with us, place a picture in the comments below. ⬇️

Cats have been beloved, even sacred animals, for literally thousands of years. It’s no wonder you treat your cat so special, people have been doing so since ancient times. 🐈

In ancient Egypt, cats played a key role in daily and religious activities. 🇪🇬 Egyptians believed cats were magical and could protect and bring good fortune to those who kept them. 🪄 Cats were so revered in ancient Egypt, they were often depicted in artwork, as gods and goddesses and even mummified and buried.

In Japanese folklore, cats are often shown as supernatural entities with the ability to protect people and provide them with good luck. 🇯🇵 Legend has it that a Japanese landlord spotted a cat that waved to him. 👋 Curious, the landlord walked towards the cat. As he did, a lightning bolt struck the spot where he had just been standing. He believed the cat, therefore, saved his life. There are several shrines in Japan dedicated to cats. ⛩️

In Russia, cats have been considered good luck for centuries. 🇷🇺 Not only are they the only animals allowed in Orthodox Christian churches, it is believed they bring good luck to those who allow them into their home before moving in. ⛪️ Cats have guarded the Hermitage Museum/Winter Palace since the 1700s, living pampered lives. They even have a press secretary dedicated to them! 🎙

If you’re looking for just the right cat to pamper, we have several available for adoption. What better way to show your love? Complete our cat adoption interest form, today: 📲 https://docs.google.com/forms/d/18gBza9tyyNszDHdpN22Q-pPAxdnld62TPgjy1f1y2ug
