February Star Sanctuary & Adoptions

February Star Sanctuary & Adoptions February Star Sanctuary rescues, rehabilitates and provides a refuge cats and horses in need.

The mission of February Star Sanctuary is to rescue, rehabilitate and provide a permanent refuge to cats and horses in need. We help the community through outreach programs to help children develop compassion for rescue animals at a early age. Teaching our children to respect and protect even the smallest among us is one of the most important life lessons we can pass on. Children and animals are t

he most vulnerable members of society, and abuse to both groups is on the rise. Our goals at the Sanctuary are to give the unwanted a home and to teach children compassion. We aim to build a generation of animal advocates one child at a time.

Sometimes, life gets in the way… No matter the reason you need to surrender or donate your horse, we’re here to help. 🐴 We know you love them like family and so do we. You can rest easy knowing that your horse will receive the best care while at our sanctuary. πŸ’ž Depending on the circumstances of your horse, they will either live out their days right here at our sanctuary, or be adopted into a loving forever home. 🐎 We do everything we can to make sure that every adopted horse goes to the perfect home for them, including extensive pre-adoption checks and check-ups after adoption. Also, we require an adopted horse be returned to our sanctuary if, for any reason, things just aren’t working out. If it’s time for you to make that difficult, but best decision for your horse, don’t hesitate. Complete our surrender form and we'll take the reins. πŸ“² https://docs.google.com/forms/d/18av6mdqmBRhda9KLtsg8lm1BvGhbCCHsjk_bHkLDLCw

We have a stunner searching for her new home! Is it with you? πŸ˜ƒ Meet Elira... 🐴😍 She's an elegant, 10 year old , with competitive experience in dressage and eventing. 🐎 Due to injuries incurred before arriving here, and her success in our training program, we believe she'll be best as a trail rider with very light riding prospects. πŸ‡ Elira isn't just eye-catching, she's a real sweetie, too! πŸ’— If you think she's the bay beauty for your barn, inquire to adopt: πŸ“² https://docs.google.com/forms/d/18xUsJlZzlMsxP9mir40YNE2AiwYMy3qqg9EGa7awxw4

It's Mane Monday and we're continuing our deep dive on the root causes that necessitate equine rescue and sanctuary.

One reason equines end up in transition is that their guardians can no longer care for them. Aside from offering them safety in sanctuary or working to rehome them, many sanctuaries and rescues offer "safety net" programs that help keep horses in their homes. These are things like low/no-cost veterinary care, hay banks, transport services and more.

These services allow guardians to get back on their feet, keep their horse, and alleviates capacity constraints for the rescue.

Our friends at The Homes for Horses Coalition have put together a fantastic list of these services: https://homesforhorses.org/resources/grants/owner-assistance-programs/

With in full swing, it's important to remember the many ways in which we can help stay comfortable this time of year. 🐴 Fly masks are key in not only protecting the face of a horse from insects, but also from harmful UV rays. πŸͺ° They can also help keep dust and debris out of their eyes, which can be especially important when traveling or experiencing dry summer weather. Be sure to keep your horses safe and comfortable this season! 🌞
