Since 2021, Robin Moore has grown MyCo Planet from just 1,800 to 5,600 sq feet. The indoor farm produces 24 tons of mushrooms annually, creates jobs, donates food to the community, and supports other growers across the region.

𝘼𝙣𝙙 𝙖𝙡𝙤𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙬𝙖𝙮, 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝘾𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙞𝙫𝙖𝙩𝙚 𝙆𝘾 𝙬𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚.

Over the years, Robin turned to Cultivate KC for guidance, community, and funding opportunities. She utilized a Get Farming Mini Grant to help stabilize production. The farm was awarded an Urban Agriculture Micro Grant to strengthen the business. Cultivate KC connected them to AltCap to access a bridge loan to help implement a project funded by a reimbursable state grant.

Cultivate KC is one of 24 now-terminated awardees of the USDA’s Increasing Land, Capital, and Market Access Program seeking a preliminary injunction to reverse these terminations and compel the USDA to honor its grant agreements.

Ami Freeberg, Cultivate KC’s Director of Strategy and Partnership, says, “Cultivate KC is joining this lawsuit to protect the future of food production in and around Kansas City. Terminating the funding for programs that address the critical barriers facing our region’s small-scale, diversified farms is a threat to our community’s health and vitality.”

We remain hopeful that if we succeed in being granted an initial amendment to the preliminary injunction, and ultimately a positive outcome in this suit, it will allow us to continue focusing our work at a level equal to the need we see in our community.

It's 𝗚𝗢𝗢𝗗 𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦 𝗙𝗥𝗜𝗗𝗔𝗬 today, particularly after such a great volunteer workday at Juniper Gardens Training Farm yesterday with our new friends from Barkleyokrp!

With their help, we were able to get SO much weeding and cleanup done up the hill at the Troup Ave Education Orchard, mulch spread around two farmers' plots, t-posts added for tomato trellising, an area nearly readied for a cover crop, and a great start on assembling our new metal CSA shed. WOW!

Three years overdue, Congress is now rushing to finalize a farm bill, prioritizing politics over the policy and investments that farmers need. After a year of intense market volatility, severe weather disasters, and a drastically reduced federal workforce, farmers and the American food system at large have been hit hard.
