Cultivate Kansas City is a locally-grown nonprofit working to grow food, farms, and community in support of an equitable, sustainable and healthy local food system for all. We believe a strong local food system with more residents participating in, growing, selling, and eating local food equates to a better nourished and stronger city. Our programs support local farmers and urban agriculture, redu

In periods of uncertainty, monthly donations become more important than ever. While we appreciate every donation, recurring donations have a few benefits for us and for you that are keenly felt during times of change.

๐Ÿฅ• Planning & Flexibility โ€“ Monthly donors provide stability, allowing us to plan ahead, respond to new challenges, and ensure farmers have the support they need to continue feeding our community.

๐Ÿ… Effortless Giving โ€“ Donate once, and your support continues automatically each month or quarter. You can alter or cancel your donation anytime.

๐ŸŒฑ Simpler Budget. Bigger Impact โ€“ Smaller, regular gifts are easier to budget for than larger one-time donations, but they add up to create a more significant, sustainable impact.

๐Ÿ’ A Likeminded Community โ€“ By joining the Dripline, you're joining a community of people who value the work of local farmers and are committed to creating a strong, resilient food system. You will have exclusive opportunities during the year to connect with this community and share local food and drink, or get your hands in the dirt together.

At New Roots, we donโ€™t just work with farmers, ๐˜ธ๐˜ฆ ๐˜ธ๐˜ฐ๐˜ณ๐˜ฌ ๐˜ธ๐˜ช๐˜ต๐˜ฉ ๐˜ง๐˜ข๐˜ณ๐˜ฎ ๐˜ง๐˜ข๐˜ฎ๐˜ช๐˜ญ๐˜ช๐˜ฆ๐˜ด.

Nowhere is the concept of a farm family more apparent than Ki Koko Farms, a 2-acre farm in central KCK. Ki Koko, which translates to โ€˜two sistersโ€™ in their native language, is owned by sisters Beh Paw Gaw and Pay Lay, who were early graduates of the program in 2011.

Beh Paw, who grew up farming, is an excellent grower and an energetic presence, but she would like to step back from the day-to-day operations of the business. With the help of New Roots staff, she is transitioning the business to her daughter, Ta Eh Gaw. This is one of the first, but likely not the last, multigenerational farms to begin at New Roots.

You may have heard, big changes are coming to the New Roots program, and ๐˜„๐—ฒ ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐—ฒ๐—ฑ ๐˜†๐—ผ๐˜‚๐—ฟ ๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—น๐—ฝ. Due to recent funding cuts by the federal government, Catholic Charities has made the difficult decision to leave the program at the end of this season.

We are committed to continuing the New Roots program, but we canโ€™t do it alone; we need your support. As we work with our friends at Catholic Charities to form a transition plan, we are diligently looking for additional partnerships. We only have months to determine what the program will look like next year, which will largely be dependent on funding.

The farmers- and our staff- are really feeling the weight of all this uncertainty. You can help lift some of that weight. New Roots farmers need your support more than ever. Your monthly donation, no matter how small, would help us plan for the future of New Roots.

Its ๐—š๐—ผ๐—ผ๐—ฑ ๐—ก๐—ฒ๐˜„ ๐—™๐—ฟ๐—ถ๐—ฑ๐—ฎ๐˜†, friends. We are still riding high after last weekend's triumphant return of the Urban Grown Tour! Read all about it and see some photos at the post below. The fortitude of this thriving urban farming community, even with all of its struggles, is the most reassuring good news of all.

In this post you'll also find the link to Urban Grown Stories, a companion podcast to the tour. Even if you weren't able to attend last weekend, please check out the podcast. There are 14 stories so far, and they are really something special. ๐Ÿฅน๐Ÿ…๐Ÿฅฌ๐Ÿฅ”

After a little under a year of planning and a 7-year long hiatus, the folks at Cultivate KC were proud to bring back the Urban Grown Tour with an amazing weekend full of beautiful growing spaces, captivating stories from urban growers, and of course a little bit of rain! Like the weather here in KC,...

This ๐—”๐—ฐ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐—ช๐—ฒ๐—ฑ๐—ป๐—ฒ๐˜€๐—ฑ๐—ฎ๐˜† weโ€™re asking you to take a minute to thank the federal workers who support our local farmers and food systems organizations.

Across the country, we all can share in common-sense hopes for our food and farm system: healthy food being accessible in all communities, farmers and ranchers being able to navigate extreme weather and keep farming, effective food safety protocols, and conservation efforts on farms that protect our air, soil, and water for years to come.

Thereโ€™s an often-invisible team working for the American people on these issues: federal workers at agencies like the United States Department of Agriculture. USDA employees work directly, in every state in the country, to keep our food safe and our farmers farming Throughout Kansas and Missouri, we've seen staff reductions impacting the USDA teams that farmers rely on for critical services, and we know those who are left are working extra hard to ensure that conservation and farm loan programs continue to support farmers in our communities.

Please email your local staff at the Farm Service Agency and Natural Resources Conservation Service to let them know you appreciate their service to your farm or farmers in our community. It's quick and easy, and a positive, encouraging action to take for them.

We are still in need of a few more volunteers for this Saturday's Urban Grown Tour - it's takes A LOT of folks to pull off an event like this! We're particularly short on the late afternoon shift. You'll get yourself a cute t-shirt and a couple free tix to the rest of the tour!

Weโ€™re thrilled the Urban Grown Tour is back, but it takes a lot of people to pull off such a great, interactive event! Please consider signing up for a volunteer shift. Youโ€™ll receive an Urban Grown Tour t-shirt as well as free admission for yourself and a friend the rest of the day. Plus youโ€™...
