Update on the Ostrich Farm in Canada!

Today the potential culling of 400 ostriches in Canada will take place.
If anyone has been following this saga over the last few months - you know it’s been a roller coaster of emotions and red tape.

“The fight between the farm and the federal agency dates back to the outbreak of avian flu in December that would go on to kill 69 ostriches.
The CFIA says the ostriches must be killed in compliance with international guidelines over how to handle cases of avian flu at commercial poultry operations, including ostrich farms.
Universal Ostrich, which used to sell their birds for meat but say they have since pivoted to raising them for use in scientific research, have repeatedly claimed that, because most of the birds are alive and healthy, they should be allowed to live.”

Personally I do feel this is a missed opportunity to learn more about the affects of AI on livestock and how the immunity & resistance is passed onto the rest of the flock and future offspring.

Let’s help this breeder & friend out and relieve some of their burden in this time of recovery & healing.
Anyone near Shelbyville KY, this is a good opportunity to add to your flock.

Sadly, we will be seriously cutting back on all poultry going into 2026. A few weeks ago, Chuck ran into some medical issues and will not be able to maintain our large flock for the forseeable future. I have hens and roos I can make some pairs or trios of for Ayam Cemanis. We also have roughly 30 roosters from 3mo-2yrs across all breeds that are penned to go as well. Send us a message for prices.

We have a slight dip in temps and a little burst of energy so we’re introducing Madeline to the family business and getting a few eggs out to a couple of VERY patient ladies who have waited way too long!!

Once temps stay consistently below 90, we will make a post and open up contact lists based on breed availability & production:)

NOTE: we’re still technically taking time off but I couldnt pass up the opportunity to get some excess eggs out AND there was NO WAY I wasn’t posting this adorable pic

I cannot express enough gratitude for this man right here.

Unfortunately this labor and delivery took more out of me than our previous ones; forcing me to take it slower than I would prefer 🙃
Which is SUCH a hard thing to do for people who are “doers” like me.
Being physically unable to be PHYSICAL is a huge pill to swallow and really puts so much into perspective…

If it were not for my husband taking on all my responsibilities and tasks while I recover - idk how this place would stay afloat.

From keeping tabs on chicks hatching, feed bag count, rotating pens for free range, breaking up c**k fights, and daily feeding & watering (on top of ALL the newborn & parental duties) - he’s really taken on so much for me, and I absolutely would not be able to cope with this recovery (mentally, emotionally, and physically) if it were not for him stepping in and lifting my burdens as a good husband does.

Alllllmost makes me wanna have another baby with him

September 11th 2025 we welcomed the newest addition to our family!
We are beyond grateful for this beautiful little blessing & will be spending some much needed down time together as a family bonding over the next couple weeks!
