Friday FURKID:

Emmett is a 2-year old male, 22 pound Dobie mix who was found wandering around Fannin County. He served his stray hold at animal control and sadly, nobody claimed him. That was then…..This is now! Emmett is ready, willing and able to move on with his new life and having a family of his very own. Emmett is playful, loving, attentive, and just plain ol’ fun! He walks great on a leash, loves to sniff along the way, does well with his house training and believe he will be perfect once he’s on a schedule in his new home.

Homeward Bound Pet Rescue is located in Blue Ridge, Gilmer Co., Georgia. We are a volunteer run organization that was established in 2000 and have successfully found forever homes for thousands of unwanted cats and dogs. We
meet by appointment only. Our pets are up to date on vaccinations, monthly preventatives, spayed and neutered (unless otherwise disclosed due to illness or age).

Here is our newest addition into Wayside Funnies! In all the years I have known Dr. Parker she has never said no to an emergency surgery, no matter if she has to stay well into the night. She is the heart and soul of surgery at Wayside. Here is to you Dr. Parker!!!

Commonly when we get a dog in the clinic with urinary tract symptoms and the problem resolves then comes back quickly bladder / kidney stones are to blame. Like lots of other diseases there’s a lot of reasons our pets can get bladder stones. They can be secondary to an infection, they can be secondary to diet, or they can be secondary to liver / kidney / other internal problems. To diagnose the underlying condition we always recommend bloodwork and to send the stones off that way we know what they’re made out of and it can really help us prevent this from ever happening again. Because that’s Key you could spend a lot of money on surgery and if we don’t fix the underlying problem, they’ll be back within a few months to a year.  so if your pet is having urinary track issues that are recurrent come see us, they might need an x-ray! Cool, extra fact, some stones can dissolve with a special diet and won’t even need surgery!!!

I just wanted to peel back the curtain on what our dentals entail. All dogs and cats are given an exam, EKG sent off to a cardiology services to
make sure they are safe for anesthesia, then a catheter is placed. Everyone gets dental x-rays, a cleaning, monitoring of all the vitals, and pain meds to go home. This is a video that really explains what all is involved and how we go about keeping our patient safe.
