Thank you thank you THANK YOU Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department for choosing a rescue Pittie!!!
Please help us welcome Karma to the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department!!!!
Karma was a rescue dog from 11th Hour K9 in California. She was rescued from a home that treated her very badly, chained up in the back yard and used for breeding purposes. She was taken to 11th Hour K9 in California. 11th hour K9 then contacted Sector K9 Foundation of Texas, believing she would be a great candidate for a Police Service Dog, as a narcotics detection K9; Karma is almost two years old.
Sector K9 Foundation, specializes in training non-traditional dogs as police K9s. Sector K9 is a nonprofit foundation which assists agencies with budget issues to acquire narcotics detection dogs. Sector K9 Foundation requires an application to be filled out and submitted for approval. Sector K9 Foundation then reviews the applicants information and decides if they meet the criteria for the donation. Deputy Cowan applied, was approved for the donation, and awarded K9 Karma.
Deputy Cowan attended a two week handler course in Texas, where him and Karma got acquainted with one another and trained for obedience, room searches and vehicle searches. K9 Karma is a passive alert dog, meaning she does not show any aggression when alerted, which avoids Department liability when it comes to damages. Karma, is a single narcotics detection K9, certified by American Working Dogs Association. K9 Karma and Deputy Cowan were both certified together on 4/22/2021. Karma had been in training to become a narcotics detection K9, since January 2021.
Sector K9 Foundation is doing all they can to assist in rehoming and repurposing unwanted dogs. There are over 3 million abandoned dogs in shelters across the United States. It just goes to show, don’t judge a book by it’s outside appearance, because even shelter dogs can make a difference in the safety of our communities.
We are extremely blessed to be honored with having Karma as a Department asset!!!!! 🐾
