🎨 Calling Local Artists! 🎨

FSA RECS Art Club is looking for talented artists who would be interested in teaching two upcoming paid Tree of Life painting classes.

We are hoping to offer:

🌳 A Kids Tree of Life Class
A fun, colorful, beginner-friendly version designed for children.

🌳 An Adult Tree of Life Class
A more detailed and artistic version inspired by the beautiful Tree of Life paintings shown here, while allowing the artist to bring their own style and creativity.

These are paid teaching opportunities, and artists will be compensated for their time and instruction.

In addition, we are seeking an artist who may be interested in helping fulfill a very special art wish for a terminally ill child who loves art. If you have a heart for making a difference through your artistic talents, we would love to hear from you.

We are also welcoming new members to the FSA RECS Art Club. Artists, crafters, creators, and art enthusiasts of all skill levels are encouraged to reach out.

If you are interested in teaching, helping with the child’s art wish, or joining the Art Club, please email:

📧 [email protected]

Thank you for helping us bring creativity, community, and inspiration to others through art.

A local media outlet and their guest “expert” recently misidentified a native Two-toed Amphiuma as an “invasive” Asian Swamp Eel. The invasive species hysteria that is currently being promoted by our government institutions and an eager fear-mongering media drives funding.

The Two-toed Amphiuma (Amphiuma means) is a fascinating large aquatic salamander. It is one of three Amphiuma species native to Florida. Amphiumas are preyed upon by otters, racoons, wading birds, fish, snakes, and snapping turtles. They form an important link in our food chain.

While online materials from our Government agencies and institutions promote the killing of nonnative animals by citizens, this approach has led to the deaths of numerous native animals and even injuries to people. Native treefrogs and toads are misidentified on social media as Cuban treefrogs and Cane toads, usually with comments encouraging killing. Native snakes are frequently killed and turned in at the annual Python Challenge after being misidentified as pythons. People have been shot with pellet guns by people targeting iguanas.

Eradication strategies that involve members of the public have not proven to be effective in the control of nonnative species. Even Government officials and scientists have misidentified species, which in some cases has led to the killing of inoffensive animals and pets.

Our fear and misunderstanding of “invasive species” is driven by the same nativist and xenophobic instincts that cause prejudice towards people. You can choose to not participate!
