Yesterday, the world lost a very special man. At Shoreline Veterinary Hospital, we’ve been fortunate to have some truly amazing individuals work here over the years, but few left a mark as lasting as Dave did.
Dave wasn’t just a skilled CVT or a recognizable face in Jacksonville’s veterinary community, he was a true pillar of it. A mentor. A teacher. A friend. His presence could light up a hospital, and his influence could shape a career. Whether you knew him well or only in passing, chances are you felt his impact.
He loved animals deeply, but what really set Dave apart was how much he loved people. He believed in their potential, especially the next generation of veterinary professionals. He thrived on helping others grow, and his greatest pride wasn’t in telling you what he had done (though he DID take great pride in that :) ), but in seeing someone else succeed and knowing, “I helped with that.”
Dave poured himself into every person he worked with, bringing not only skill and experience, but a generous heart and natural mentorship. He was the kind of person who’d take time to teach someone something new, to share a story that mattered and to remind others to be proud of what they do and grateful for who they do it with.
That spirit lives on in the way we work here at Shoreline. It lives in our culture of teaching, in our commitment to connection, and in our shared pride in the profession. Dave’s legacy is woven into the fabric of our hospital and into every team member he helped grow along the way.
So today, if you’d like to honor him, do what Dave did so naturally:
Connect with someone.
Take time to teach.
Make work a place where people feel seen, heard, and appreciated.
And when the day ends, remember to say what Dave always did to each of us...
“Thanks for coming.”
We’ll never forget the impact he made.
Thanks for coming, Dave.
