🐾 Meet Lil Pork Chop! 🐾

This adorable little guy was found abandoned and brought to us when he was only 10 days old. After a rough start, Lil Pork Chop has received lots of love and care and has grown into a happy, healthy kitten who is ready to find his forever family! ❤️

Lil Pork Chop is now 6 weeks old, FIV/Feline Leukemia negative, and full of personality.

Deer Ridge Animal Hospital will be closed today in observance of Memorial Day! 🇺🇸

If you have an emergency, please call Vet Triage at 1-800-940-1921 for further advice or transfer to Veterinary Specialty Services for small animals or Mid-Rivers Equine for horses.

We will reopen tomorrow morning at 8:00 AM.

Katie Shively, DVM
Dr. Katie joined the Deer Ridge Animal Hospital team this past year! She grew up in the Chicago suburbs and attended University of Missouri for both her bachelor’s degree and DVM. After graduating, from vet school in 2022, she spent the last few years in equine general practice. Dr. Katie has enjoyed practicing small animal medicine, with a special interest in managing orthopedic injuries in both young and geriatric patients!

Karen Fieser, DVM
Raised in Campbell, MO, Dr. Fieser earned her bachelors in Biology from SEMO, masters in Biology from St. Louis University, and her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Missouri. She worked as a Lab Tech for 7-Up, taught high school Biology for several years, spent 10 years as a USDA Food Inspector, and has been an Associate Veterinarian for 15 years at various clinics in Poplar Bluff, Kennett, Cape Girardeau, and lastly here at Deer Ridge since 2007.

A few fun facts about Dr. Fieser:

🐾 Meet Richard & Nixon! 🐾

These two sweet boys are looking for their forever home! ❤️ Richard and Nixon are about 6 weeks old, FeLV/FIV tested (negative), and have had their first vaccines. They are playful, adorable, and ready to go anytime!

Belinda Strack, DVM
Dr. Strack was born and raised in Cape Girardeau and attended Southeast Missouri State University before graduating from Mississippi State College of Veterinary Medicine in 2024. She joined the Deer Ridge Animal Hospital family February 2025 with a passion for both small animal emergency medicine and bovine herd health. Dr. Strack also has experience from externships across Wisconsin, Texas, and Southwest Missouri and loves serving both large and small animal patients in our community!

‼️Traffic Update‼️

🚧 TRAFFIC UPDATE 🚧

The new Deerwood Roundabout at North High Street (Hwy. 61) and Deerwood Drive will open to full traffic later today.

Fronabarger Concreters, Inc. is opening the roundabout to normal traffic flow, and all construction-related lane restrictions, temporary signals, and detours will be removed.

A few final items still remain, including completion of one splitter island, some seeding work, and pavement re-striping. These remaining tasks will be completed with traffic flowing or under minimal flagging operations.

As drivers begin using the new roundabout, please slow down, yield to traffic already in the roundabout, and follow posted signs and pavement markings.
