Everyone meet Huey! He is 2 years old and is very friendly. He doesn’t have the best manners. He loves jumping on people. As a full grown dog, he knocks people over. We will be building his obedience and home manners. Can’t wait to see his progress!

Everyone meet Sir Barks-a-lot. This sweet boy will be ready for adoption through Redemption Animal Rescue very soon. On Monday I started some obedience training with him. He is very sweet but, as his name implies, he barks a lot. Some dogs are just talkative. Anxious/ scared dogs can also bark a lot. My plan is to build his obedience and build his confidence! This will help turn off some of the barking.

Everyone meet Fluffy D! This big boy is a year old. He is very sweet but has no manners. He loves jumping on new people. This is a BIG problem because of his size. I can’t wait to see his progress!

Everyone meet Deacon! This sweet boy started his training a week ago. He is newly 1 and has been with his parents for a couple months. He is very smart and really high energy! They just want to make sure he is the best boy that he can be. They plan on taking him out and about a lot so they want him to listen and follow commands anywhere they take him. I can’t wait to see his progress.

Winnie! This puppy started her obedience training. We started place and sit. We also went over some other commands; like follow and come. She was picking up on those commands really fast! We had to cut our lesson a little short because during a break she snuggled in her bed and fell asleep. It was so cute!

Kennels are an important training tool. When introduced at a young age, a kennel can help with potty training, stopping naughty behaviors and giving dogs confidence in being left alone.

Frank is almost 3 and still has free access to his kennel. He sometimes still goes in there to take a nap.

Everyone meet Winnie! This sweet puppy started her puppy training last week! We started with the very basics; potty training, kennel training, learning her name and general puppy information. She is so sweet! I can’t wait to see her grow.

Fun fact: Most dogs don’t have rear end awareness. That means most don’t realize what their back legs or tails are doing; which is why some dogs chase their tails. 🙃

You can teach a dog to use their back legs independently. I am working on this with Frank. Building their rear end awareness can help strengthen their leg, hip and core muscles.

Frank and I have been working on this on and off for the last few months. Today was his best training session yet. As you be an see sometimes, I have to repeat myself because I only say “Foot” not “Frank Foot” saying the command without saying his name first is confusing for him since 90% of the time I say his name first.

I put the target in a makeshift tunnel. He only has one way to go. I also adjust the target halfway through because I noticed he started hitting it with only 1 paw. I want him to succeed so I make it easy while it’s still new.
