We just treated this pup a couple of days ago for a foxtail—yep, it’s that time of year again!

Foxtail season is here, and these barbed little grass seeds can cause big trouble, especially for long-haired dogs. They love to hide in paws, ears, armpits, and tails—and can burrow into the skin, causing pain and infection.

Watch for signs like:
• Licking/chewing paws
• Limping
• Swollen toes

Quick tips:
• Avoid tall dry grass
• Check your dog after walks
• Keep long paw fur trimmed

If you spot anything suspicious, bring your pup in—we’re here to help!

Last weekend our team attended the Western Veterinary Conference (WVC) Annual Conference, where we gained valuable insights into the latest advancements in veterinary medicine. The conference provided us with new knowledge on emerging treatments, technologies, and techniques that will help us better serve our patients and their owners.

We’re excited to implement what we’ve learned to further improve the care and service we provide. Thank you for trusting us with your pet’s health and well-being!

Today, we performed pre-blood work on some senior dogs here for dental procedures. One pup was cleared for dental work, which is so important for their overall health, while the others couldn’t undergo the procedure due to high liver values. This really highlights the importance of pre-blood work. It helps us identify hidden health issues and ensures the safety of our pets during treatments.

Dental Month Fun Fact: Did you know dental disease is super common in pets? Regular cleanings help prevent serious issues like heart and kidney problems! 🐾

Update: We're fully booked for dental appointments this month, but don't forget to brush your pet's teeth! We have dental wipes available at the office to help keep their mouth fresh and healthy.

We are thrilled to introduce Dr. Noor, who joined the Desert Vet team in June 2024. Many of you may have already had the pleasure of meeting her! Dr. Noor is originally from Pakistan and completed her studies in New York. She and her husband, along with their two children, relocated to join us! We feel incredibly lucky to have her expertise and caring nature on our team, and we're excited to see the positive impact she'll continue to make in the lives of our patients and clients.

Meet our new office kitty, Carl! Carl found us shortly after Cece’s passing, and while we miss Cece dearly, Carl has quickly become a wonderful addition to the Desert Vet family. In the mornings, you can find Carl greeting everyone with a friendly meow as they walk through the door, and by afternoon he’s happily snoozing away by the reception desk. With a curious and playful spirit, yet a laid-back demeanor, he’s the perfect balance. We’re so happy to have Carl around—he really brightens our days! He also loves to say “hi” when he wakes up from a nap.
