Do you know that dogs can understand fairness? Studies have shown that dogs can recognize when they are being treated unfairly compared to other dogs and may even refuse to participate if they feel cheated.

The study regarding dogs' understanding of fairness is based on research conducted by Dr. Friederike Range, an animal cognition expert at the University of Vienna, and her colleagues.

Their study, titled "Inequity Aversion in Dogs" and published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) in 2009, found that dogs displayed aversion to inequitable outcomes, particularly when they received less or no reward compared to their partners.

The research involved pairs of dogs performing the same task and receiving either equal rewards or unequal rewards. When the dogs were rewarded unequally, the dog receiving the lesser or no reward often refused to continue participating, suggesting an understanding of unfair treatment.

At the end of the day, it's self preservation. We've all seen the set-up videos where a scary stranger enters the house, the owners are screaming and the dogs run out of the front door instead of "protect their owners" like their Guardians think they will.

I believe in using techniques that work, are ethically humane, compassionate and designed to enhance the relationship between you and your best friend. My mission is to inspire pet owners and help them raise well behaved, loving companions so we can keep dogs out of shelters. My name is Nicole and I am passionate about training dogs and empowering people. I never knew I would wake up every morning and be so excited to start my day working with you and your furry friend(s). I am truly fascinated with the developing science behind how dogs learn and how we can utilize that information to enrich our relationships with our canine friends. It is amazing how much training has evolved in just the last 20 years. I am here to make it a fun and positive experience for both you and your best friend. I specialize in family dog training and can work on everything from early puppy socialization/potty training, beginner through advanced obedience, behavior modification, CGC Certification and Therapy Dog Training. I work with all breeds, sizes and ages.
