Consistency is vital to truly having a pup potty trained. It can happen very quickly if you understand how to implement the training and be consistent. When our pups have a clear picture and understanding of what we are asking they are happy to oblige. If we are inconsistent in what that picture looks like our pups will have a hard time being successful.

Slater has not completed his vaccinations yet. This doesn’t stop trainer Melissa from making sure he is exposed to the world around him during his critical imprint stages. Missing this time with your pup can lead you to experience behavior issues with your pups such as fear, reactivity and anxiety. We see this ALL THE TIME. Have you had a pup that was afraid of the trash truck? That wouldn’t walk but instead pancaked when you began taking them out? Have you had a pup bark and snap or lunge at people and dogs at a very young age? Have you at 6 - 12 months old experienced reactivity toward cars, bikes, skateboards, people, dogs, etc.? Missing this time to properly expose your pup likely caused all of it. Pups can also be over exposed or exposed improperly which will have negative effects.
Melissa began with small trips to places that would not be overwhelming for Slater then moved into areas such as the beach. Understanding your pup and what is vital to raising them with strong nerves and confidence is 90% of the training you will do with them! Understanding what training looks like during this period in their life IS the most important training you will do with them.
