Happy Sunday! Time for some reflection…

▶️As a horse owner myself, I wanted to open some sort of forum to discuss a few topics with my friends and colleagues. ◀️

I understand, properly taking care of a horse can be exhausting and expensive.

1️⃣What is something you wish you knew more about before owning your first horse?

2️⃣What is the biggest “surprise” financially that comes with horse ownership?

3️⃣For those of you who board, or pay for care of your horse; is there anything you wished you knew more from the team of professionals who care for, help, and assist your horse daily?

There are no right or wrong answers. An answer to one or all is up to you.

I appreciate looking through the lens of others in this industry to better take care of our four-legged partners!

It wouldn’t have been a true Preakness Day without celebrating some of our OTTB’s!

The *unorganized* ride was originally planned to get Seattle “off the property” and alone on the trailer, so his owner, Charles Toler could focus his lens on getting the perfect shot at the Preakness at Laurel Park.

With the storms of Wednesday night, Stef and I had to reschedule our ride, due to footing, but knew the boys would be up for an adventure this weekend. With too many saddles to sit in, and not enough riders, I knew Meredith Kearney would be up to the task of piloting Dublin. He may not be as perfect as the 4yr old sale horse (yes he’s a TB and quieter than most) she was slated to bring, but Dublin did end up on the buckle. It’s tough being a fancy OTTB.

Law… as expected, was fine with the jigging OTTB’s, and his new friends. This was his first off-property adventure without any of the ladies he lives with. We are giving him a round of applause on all efforts. And for loading alone first try on Jayde’s rig.

Seattle did exactly what Seattle does. Acts as the gentleman he is! Even if all his trail buddies were 50% more thoroughbred than him, and less than half his age. He kept up, relaxed, and enjoyed the experience.

As riders, we have to meet the horses where they are. In their fitness, in their exposure, and in their training. Most horses will be willing to do whatever we want them to do… we just have to ride for that goal and make every experience a good experience!

It may not be blue ribbons or a blanket of black eyed Susan’s but it’s happy horses and humans!

It was a fun Mother’s Day weekend running through HCIBH’s Hunter Pace Course with client, and owner of these two beauties, Stitch and Fraser.

It was a good opportunity to remind the boys of trailer etiquette, traveling to an event (even if close!), and having patience with strange horses around.

We took our optimal time, schooled what we wanted, and walk trotted and cantered to the finish line.

Thank you Robin Conrad for your never ending support (and road trip snacks)!

Happy Mother’s Day to Mother’s far and wide!! (Even if you identify as the mother of the four legged babies!)

I am forever grateful to my Mom for her constant support. I know my business model and goals would look much different if she wasn’t there pushing me along.

Big hugs to all the Mom’s on this special day!!
