It would seem to me that many trainers have forgotten, or never learned: 1. That there are SIX commonly used positive reinforcement techniques, all with different but great effect. Most 'modern' positive reinforcement trainers only use a fraction of ONE technique — shaping, yet omitting verbal instructions and replacing PRAISE with a 'click'. So I have decided to do a one-off seminar in Houston to talk about all six techniques: 1. Classical Conditioning, 2. Lure-Reward training (the quickest, easiest and most effective means to teach cued behaviors), 3. Wait & Reward training (shaping on steroids), 4. Autoshaping, 5. Physical Prompting for rock solid stand-stays and 6. How we use Shaping to turn a 0.2 sec Sit or a half second glance into a one minute Sit Stay or a 30 sec Watch me, or to string together two dozen behaviors for a single food reward, all within a single session. Or, my favorite, how to increase cued-Shush-time from a second or two to half an hour. Hope to see you in Houston.
