At the Greening of Third Ward and Beyond 2026 every seed/starter plant, that went home with a family was an opportunity to teach, inspire, and create something lasting.

From little hands learning to plant to experienced growers sharing their knowledge, The Greening of Third Ward & Beyond was an amazing reminder that growing food is about more than what’s on our plates.

It’s about family.

It’s about knowledge.

It’s about COMMUNITY.

Let’s keep growing together!

Pink celery is real. Is it actually better?

Pink celery is a vibrantly-colored Chinese vegetable that resembles rhubarb in color and structure.

For patients fighting pancreatic cancer or stomach ailments frequently face a total loss of appetite, severe nausea, and an inability to tolerate solid foods, Pink Potato soup is a great meal. Pink celery is loaded with antioxidants, flavonoids, and polyphenols to fight inflammation.

Gardening as a reset from daily stress and more

Getting your hands dirty in the garden is actually a great way to boost your overall health. When you touch soil, you expose yourself to natural, friendly bacteria that make their way onto your skin and into your gut.

What does growing food have to do with training tomorrow's doctors?

Quite a bit.

We were honored to see Harlem River Farms highlighted by at in a story about its PLUS program, which takes future physicians beyond the classroom and into Houston communities.

One medical student who worked with Harlem River Farms shared that the experience changed how they thought about treatment — looking beyond the immediate medical issue and asking what can be done to prevent it from happening again.

A balcony. A backyard corner. A vacant lot. A shared community plot.

Urban agriculture changes how we see space.

Harlem River Farms is using community events to turn urban agriculture into a shared local resource.

Hard work pays off, but today? Today, we rest.

To everyone clocking out, logging off, or firing up the grill or tending to their gardens this weekend....slow down: you've earned this.

Let’s take a moment to celebrate the grit, dedication, and late nights that got us here.

Your grocery budget needs a garden. 🌱

Stop rebuying greens every week. Learn which crops give repeated harvests in small spaces.

That is why Harlem River Farms teaches urban farming as a practical grocery-budget strategy. You do not need acres. You need the right crops and a simple system.
