Cats have around 230 bones, while humans have 206. 🐱🦴 Those extra bones, especially in the spine and tail, help give cats their amazing flexibility, balance, and jumping ability. It’s one of the reasons they can twist, stretch, and squeeze into spaces that seem impossibly small.

Cats are built for agility, but that doesn’t mean they’re immune to injury. If your cat is limping, reluctant to jump, or moving differently than usual, it may be time for an exam. Call (267) 943-3633 if you have questions about your cat’s mobility or wellness.

Polydactyl cats are born with extra toes, most often on their front paws. It’s a genetic trait and is usually completely harmless, just an extra dose of cute. That said, those extra toes can come with a few care considerations. More toes means more nails to trim, and sometimes they grow at different angles or are easier to snag if not maintained. Most polydactyl cats live totally normal, healthy lives, but regular paw checks and nail trims are important to keep them comfortable.

To your cat… it’s actually a compliment! Cats groom the ones they trust. It can also be a way to bond, mark you with their scent, or just show a little love (in their own… chaotic way).

If it ever becomes excessive or obsessive, it could be a sign of stress or something medical, so keep an eye on it.

Dogs experience the world through scent in a way we can’t fully imagine. They have up to 300 million scent receptors, compared to about 6 million in humans, which means smells carry much more information for them.

What seems gross to us is often fascinating and informative to them. It’s completely normal behavior, even if it makes us question their choices.

Wishing you and your pets a safe, happy Memorial Day!

As you spend time with family and friends, don’t forget to keep an eye on your furry family members too. Loud noises, hot weather, unattended food, and busy gatherings can all be stressful, or even dangerous, for pets.

A little extra caution can help make the holiday safe and enjoyable for everyone ❤️

📞 If you have any concerns about your pet this weekend, give us a call: (267) 943-3633

Open play with your dog is safest when they have reliable recall, respond to basic cues, and are in a secure, enclosed area. 🐶 Before unclipping the leash, make sure your dog will come when called, can refocus on you around distractions, and is not likely to run toward people, wildlife, roads, or other dogs.

If your dog tends to ignore cues, bolt, guard toys, or become overstimulated, more training may be needed before off-leash play is a good idea. A good rule of thumb: if you’re not confident you can call your dog back right away, it’s not the right time for open play yet. Questions about safe exercise, behavior, or whether your dog is ready for more freedom? Call (267) 943-3633.

A cat’s nose print is completely unique, much like a human fingerprint. The tiny ridges and patterns on their nose create a one-of-a-kind identifier.

Changes in the appearance or texture of the nose can sometimes reflect hydration or overall health, so it’s always worth paying attention to what’s normal for your cat. Noticing changes? Call us: (267) 943-3633
