📣 Holiday Closure Notice

In observance of Independence Day, all Express Vets Clinics will be closed on Friday, July 4th, and will reopen on Monday, July 7th with regular business hours.

However, our full-service clinic in Woodstock will be open on Saturday, July 5th from 9 AM to 2 PM.

🎆 Fireworks & Dog Safety Tips from Express Vets 🐾

Fireworks might be fun for us, but they can be terrifying for our four-legged friends. Here’s how you can keep your pup calm and safe this 4th of July (and anytime fireworks are expected):

BEFORE the Fireworks:
🐶 Give your dog plenty of exercise earlier in the day — long walk, playtime, etc.
🌙 Take the final potty break before it gets dark.
🚪 Double-check that all doors & windows are securely closed.
🛠️ Inspect gates and fences for any weak spots or holes.
🚫 Never leave your dog unattended outside.
✔️ Ensure your pets are microchippeded and your information is up to date.

DURING the Fireworks:
🪟 Close blinds and drapes.
🛏️ Crate your dog before fireworks begin and cover the crate for comfort.
📺 Use a TV, fan, or noise machine to help drown out the booms.
🐾 If you must take your dog out, secure collars and leashes properly — even dogs who aren’t flight risks may panic.

💙 Keep them safe, keep them close.

☀️ Keep Your Dog Safe in the Summer Heat! 🐶

Hot weather can be dangerous for our four-legged friends. At Express Vets, we want to help you keep your dog cool, comfortable and safe all summer long. Here’s what you need to know:

🐾 Limit Outdoor Time
Take short walks early in the morning or late in the evening when it’s cooler. Don’t forget water!

🚗 Never Leave Your Dog in a Car
Even a quick stop can turn deadly. A parked car can reach dangerous temps within minutes—even with windows cracked.

🥵 Watch for Signs of Overheating
⚠️ Excessive panting
⚠️ Drooling
⚠️ Hot skin
⚠️ Weakness or wobbliness
These are all signs your dog may be in distress.

💧 Hydration is Key
Place water bowls in multiple spots around your home. Add ice cubes to help keep the water cool!

🐕 Know Your Dog’s Risk
Flat-faced breeds (like pugs and bulldogs), senior dogs, puppies, and dogs with dark coats or health issues are at higher risk of heatstroke.

🌞 Protect Against Sunburn
Dogs with short hair, pink skin, or light-colored fur are prone to sunburn. Avoid direct sunlight between 10am–4pm.

🚿 Cool Down the Right Way
Move your dog to a shady or cool spot, and gently mist them with cool (not ice-cold) water. Focus on the armpits and groin. Avoid ice packs.
❗ If you suspect heatstroke, contact your vet immediately!
