Never underestimate a true spider. Over the years I’ve had quite a few spiderlings escape, only to find them tangled up in a house spider web later on. I normally allow the house spiders to live freely to help maintain loose crickets that escape. However some years back I had a mature male Neoholothele incei “gold” escape as well. 2 weeks later I couldn’t believe my eyes when I found it behind my TV stuck in the web of a Parasteatoda tepidariorum, with a proud little spider biting the abdomen, subduing her capture.

In hindsight, I wish I had left the male in the web to document what she was going to do with that unusually large prey. My instinct was to try to save the male though, which was unsuccessful as he was already on his way out.

What’s the most ridiculous thing you have seen a spider eating ?

size 1/4” These beautiful dwarfs are very hard to find these days and won’t last long. This species is one of the larger Cyriocosmus species reaching 2 inches or more as adults. Described in 1998 by Fernando Pérez-Miles who named them after Argentinian arachnologist Rita Delia Schiapelli. These...

These are what nightmares are made of. Imagine one of those hideous house centipedes that you find scurrying around your basement floors. Now imagine one that is 12 inches long zipping around at lightning speeds. These cave dwelling centipedes in the family Scutigeridae like it humid and need tall enclosures with amble space to hang when they molt. They will feed on crickets and other commonly available feeder insects, and are easy to keep. This particular batch is native to Java in Indonesia with orange colored legs and a dark chocolate brown body. Their first pair of legs are modified into their venom delivery system, however they aren’t know to be dangerous or have venom to be concerned about. With the last set of legs and the antenna these incredible centipedes can measure up to 12 inches as adults. The ones offered for sale here are juveniles around 2” - 3” so you can watch them grow. Due to the extra leggy and long appendages of these bugs, they are sometimes missing part or all of a leg or antenna and that is considered normal. These appendages grow back with a molt, so I do not guarantee a 100% perfect specimen or money back for missing legs etc. However they are doing good and most look nearly perfect. These are very limited so jump on them now!

Linothele megathelodies (or sericata, whatever you are calling them today) are back in stock. If you haven’t kept these you are missing out. Heavy webbing species that can get over 5 inches. Way more fun to keep then boring tarantulas. These spiders are native to Colombia and in the family Dipluridae as they are mygalomorphs similar to tarantulas that have fangs that move in the up down motion and 4 book lungs. These are not “true spiders” (araneomorphs) that only live for a year or two. In my experience Linothele tend to live 5 years or more. However reports online cite that they can live much longer. These spiders are only sporadically available so get some now !
