It’s been one of our toughest years yet! We have another plea for help for a special little kitty. Please check out his story below.
Forbes’ life began with a fight. Born under a deck and brought to Cocoa Kitties with his mom when he was just one day old, he was tiny, fragile, and completely dependent on us for survival. For weeks, he grew stronger—but there was always something in his breathing that didn’t sound quite right.
At just a month old, Forbes began showing respiratory symptoms. Pneumonia was ruled out, so we treated him for a URI, but his “crackly” breathing never went away. When his mama was diagnosed with a bacterial infection, we tested Forbes—but he came back negative. Then came a diagnosis of lung worms. We even checked for nasal polyps—thankfully none were found—but during anesthesia, the vet noticed concerning phlegm. A culture revealed multiple antibiotic-resistant bacteria, and X-rays uncovered something shocking: Forbes had a collapsed lung.
This little fighter is now on a long course of dewormer and a special antibiotic that targets his stubborn lung infection. Three weeks in, he’s showing small signs of improvement, but he’s not out of the woods yet. Forbes still needs follow-up vet visits, more imaging, and continued medication to give him the healthy, happy life he deserves.
