If you're uncomfortable standing barefoot on the sidewalk, your dog probably is too.
Summer is not the season for pushing through long walks or intense exercise.
A few things I keep in mind:
Walk early in the morning or later in the evening.
Bring water everywhere.
Take lots of sniff breaks instead of trying to cover miles.
Watch for excessive panting, slowing down, or looking for shade.
Sometimes the best enrichment is ten minutes of training inside with the air conditioning on.
What is your favorite way to keep your dog busy when it's too hot outside?
