The other day someone shouted at me "I see you found a replacement!" as they drove by. I was walking my two senior rescue dogs, Tink and Murphy, in the neighborhood and I didn't get a chance to see who the person was who waved at me from their car. I assume they know about Zoe and this is what they're referring to. I also honestly don't think it was said with malicious intent. But it made me upset and filled me with guilt. Tink and Murphy are in no way replacements for Zoe. Only Zoe is Zoe. She's my soul dog. She's my heart. I love Tink and Murphy with my entire being but the dogs I foster and rescue are not intended for me to forget about Zoe or stop looking for Zoe. I spend every morning online looking at found dogs and I visit shelters and people send me links to dogs who look like Zoe and I look at every single one. No way will I ever give up looking for her. Why would I? Losing hope is not an option. Even though I know Zoe would be happy I'm helping senior dogs which I owe all to her, when someone shouts "you found a replacement," it really stings. Whether or not this was their intention.
Yesterday was exactly 19 months to the day of Zoe being lost by dog sitters. 💔 We're still putting up signs. We're still sharing her story. 🙏
