We are dedicated to ensuring a safe environment for homeless, injured, and abused domestic animals awaiting adoption. BRHS assesses behavior, bathes, grooms, and treats conditions as necessary with all animals under our care. Prior to adoption, each animal is provided with all the appropriate vaccinations, a microchip, dewormed and they are spayed or neutered. We are committed to finding lifelong

homes for every pet. Screening and counseling of potential families contributes to our successful adoptions.

Those irresistible puppy-dog eyes 👀 belong to Waddle Dee, a charming little guy who loves belly rubs, cuddles, and all the attention you can give him. His sit for treats gets him a ⭐, and he's always eager to show off his good manners for a snack. He doesn't mind a good face squish—in fact, he seems to enjoy it!

This sweet boy has a loving personality and a gentle heart. While he's still young, he's eager to learn, eager to please, and ready to bond with his people. Waddle Dee is the kind of dog who will happily soak up affection and return it tenfold. Can you believe this photograph was created by a dog named Oliver? It's an amazing testimonial to the power of the pet and pet owner connection.

Taking a cue from his human, photographer David Day, Ollie used a technique called 'Controlled Camera Chaos' to create this masterpiece, titled 'Violinist' which was auctioned off last month to benefit our work. The duo has even published books detailing their creative process, including "Reflections of a Good Dog: My Story".

Based in Flat Rock, David is internationally recognized for his innovative use of intentional camera movement in the studio, creating abstract images that blend motion, emotion, and texture. His recent exhibit titled 'The Emotional Residue of Dreams' on display at was not only a stunning display of his work, but David elected to donate all proceeds to Blue Ridge Humane Society.

We are incredibly grateful to D'Day Photographic Art for hosting a successful fundraiser for BRHS, and to Ollie, who's own masterpiece was auctioned off at the opening night reception for hundreds of dollars.

Sola is a 10-month-old tortoise shell kitty whose owner is facing a move where no cats are allowed. Sola knows "no," "down," "stop," AND she retrieves! Sola is friendly, litterbox trained, and very playful. She has lived with other cats and is ready to begin her new adventure with her new people! 🐱

Hank, aka 'The Happiest Boy', is our Saturday Staff Pick! ⭐️

Hank is an easy dog who would fit into most homes. He is very treat motivated and loves to please. He knows sit, he walks well on a leash, and he is great with other dogs large and small. Basically, we think he's perfect! 😍

In honor of Pet Loss Awareness Month this July, we’re hosting a Low-Cost Microchip-Only Clinic to help keep your pets safe and by your side this summer. 🐾

📍 353 Banner Farm Road, Mills River
📅 Saturday, June 20th
⏰ 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
💲$15 per pet

Microchipping is a quick, permanent way to help lost pets find their way home, especially during the high-risk summer months where loud fireworks or storms can cause a pet to run away.

This clinic is first-come, first-serve while supplies last. Dogs must be on leashes and cats must be in carriers. We ask that you complete a registration form in advance to speed up the check-in process. Please note that filling out a registration form does not guarantee service.

Check out this incredible gift that one of our SNIP clients gave us! She has had a total of 15 cats come through our program. 🐱

Last month, 169 animals came through our SNIP program! That's 169 animals who have been spayed or neutered to help control the pet population in our community. Thank you to everyone who makes this program possible! 💙
