We are dedicated to ensuring a safe environment for homeless, injured, and abused domestic animals awaiting adoption. BRHS assesses behavior, bathes, grooms, and treats conditions as necessary with all animals under our care. Prior to adoption, each animal is provided with all the appropriate vaccinations, a microchip, dewormed and they are spayed or neutered. We are committed to finding lifelong

homes for every pet. Screening and counseling of potential families contributes to our successful adoptions.

generates 1/3 of the funding that powers the whole Blue Ridge Humane Society, and it wouldn’t be possible without our amazing volunteers. From sorting/pricing donations and steaming boutique finds to keeping things organized and running smoothly, this crew does it all—with heart and hustle.

This spotlight is: The Kibble Krew!
This mighty team meets weekly to bag dog and cat food for our pet food giveaways— and they do it with smiles, speed, and serious scooping skills. 💪🐾
Thanks to them, we’ve donated over 6,000 lbs of food just this month! That’s a lot of full bellies and wagging tails. Kibble Krew, you’re feeding more than pets—you’re feeding hope in our community 💛

We are NOW SCHEDULING Male Dog neuter appointments!
As appointment slots become available, we’ll update the SNIP page on our website with a link to complete the appointment request form. Appointments will be scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. Once all slots are filled, the link to the form will be removed.

Important Information:
✅ You must verify that you are a Henderson County resident to schedule an appointment.
✅ Surgeries are only $10 for Henderson County residents and include a free rabies vaccination.
✅ Additional low-cost services are also available.

UPDATE (4/22): Surgery slots are now full. Check back for new openings.

All are welcome to one of our monthly free pet food giveaway locations. The next one is Saturday, April 26th at the Boys & Girls Club of Henderson County 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM.

We have a happy update to share... all the parvo puppies are now healthy, thriving, and officially ready for adoption!!!🎉💙🎉

When they first came to us, they were sick, scared, and in urgent need of intensive care. The cost was high, the need was great but our community showed up.

To every single person who donated, shared their story, or simply sent good thoughts their way, thank you. It’s easy to feel like a small act doesn’t make a big impact, but we’re here to tell you that a lot of littles add up to a lot! Because of your support, six lives were saved.

This is what happens when a community comes together. These pups are healthy, playful, and looking forward to finding families of their own because you believed they deserved a chance.🐾

Just a reminder that all adoptions are FREE for one day only on Saturday 4/19!!!

This is Ellie. 💙 She was recently returned to our care through no fault of her own, and she’s having a tough time adjusting. Right now, Ellie is scared, overwhelmed, and unsure of her surroundings.

She needs a soft place to land—a quiet foster home where she can start to feel safe again. A separate room where she can have her own space to rest and slowly come out of her shell on her own terms. What she needs most is patience, understanding, and someone willing to meet her where she’s at.

We know there’s someone out there who can offer that calm, healing environment. Ellie doesn’t need much—just a little time, a little love, and the chance to feel safe again.

We’re still smiling from all the incredible moments at Paws for a Purpose—and one of the biggest highlights? Seeing so many BRHS alumni out and about!

We were especially thrilled to run into sweet Rory during the Wag! A Unique Pet Boutique Community Dog Walk. If you don’t know Rory’s story, it’s one that truly touches the heart. She was first welcomed into our care as a foster pup and bravely battled parvo with the help of our amazing medical partners. Her foster, Ellen, quickly became her forever person, and Rory has been living her best life ever since.

Seeing her now—healthy, happy, and surrounded by love—was the perfect reminder of why we do this work. Thank you to every alumni family who stopped to say hello, share an update, or simply celebrate with us. You are all part of the heart of BRHS. 💙

Meet Java Chip—a three month old pup overflowing with love, zoomies, and tail wags. He’s equal parts cuddlebug and playmate, and he’s been patiently waiting for someone to notice what a gem he is. Java Chip is sweet, friendly, and always ready to make new friends (two-legged or four). He’s still learning the ropes but eager to grow with a family by his side.

Thank you for making Paws for a Purpose a weekend to remember! 💙

We are so grateful to everyone who came out, shared our mission, and supported the over 40 local businesses that joined us to be a voice for animals in our community. Whether you bowled, sipped, stopped in for lunch, brought your pup to a walk, or simply helped spread the word—you made a difference.

But the fun (and the impact) isn’t over! Don’t forget—many of our incredible business partners are continuing to give back all month long. From roundup donations to special products and sales, there’s still time to support animals simply by supporting local.

This event exists because of pets like Hamburger, Piper, and Americano—animals who come through our doors in need of care, love, and second chances. Your participation helps us say “yes” to them, and to the hundreds more who will need us in the months ahead.

You all may remember the six puppies we pulled from Henderson County Animal Services, all battling parvo when they arrived. We’re happy to share they’re all doing well! Some of the litter spent five days at the emergency vet. Right now all of them are in our care.

Some were struggling to eat, so our dedicated staff has spent time sitting with them during meals to encourage eating and offer comfort sometimes even hand feeding them. They’ve been cleared for short play sessions together during the day, and their little personalities are starting to shine.

Thank you for rooting for them and helping make their long road to recovery possible. We are hoping that they will test negative soon and will be well enough and strong enough to be available for adoption in next couple weeks.

Until then, we will continue to care for them and offer them them the support they need!

Day 1 of Paws for a Purpose was a huge success—and we’re just getting started!

We’re blown away by the energy, excitement, and generosity you all brought yesterday. From full dog wash stations to delicious treats, bowling to community dog walks, our partners and supporters showed up in a big way to help local animals.

But the weekend isn’t over yet!

Today’s your chance to keep the momentum going—grab lunch, swing by a brewery or winery, take a walk, or do a little shopping. Every stop you make at a participating business means more support for pets in need right here in our community.
