We are dedicated to ensuring a safe environment for homeless, injured, and abused domestic animals awaiting adoption. BRHS assesses behavior, bathes, grooms, and treats conditions as necessary with all animals under our care. Prior to adoption, each animal is provided with all the appropriate vaccinations, a microchip, dewormed and they are spayed or neutered. We are committed to finding lifelong homes for every pet. Screening and counseling of potential families contributes to our successful adoptions.

👻HAPPY HALLOWEEN from all of our spooky-loving staff at BRHS!

Halloween can be lots of fun for us humans, but all the costumes, doorbells, and decorations can sometimes be confusing and frightening for our pets. Here are a few tips to keep in mind during the festivities tonight:

🎃Create a safe space for your pets away from the front door and the constant stream of trick-or-treaters.

🎃Remember that people in costumes can be frightening for some pets. Don't force interactions and give them space.

🎃Keep that candy bowl out of reach! We aren't the only ones tempted by those Halloween treats!

🎃If you're planning to dress up your pet, make sure their costume fits properly and that they don't mind wearing it. If your pet seems uncomfortable, it might be best to skip the costume this year.

🎃And, as always, make sure your pet is wearing an ID tag and that their microchip is up to date, just in case they make a dash for the door.

We hope everyone has a fun, safe, and pawsitively spooky Halloween! 👻

Frank is the TOTAL package!

Sweet, goofy, and absolutely MAXED OUT on the squish scale, Frank is an 8-month-old heartthrob who is ready to steal your heart (and maybe a cookie or two). 😍

This handsome boy knows how to sit and is eager to keep learning, especially if tasty treats are involved. He's a smart cookie… emphasis on the cookie. 🍪

His other great love? The flirt pole! Put a toy on a rope and give it a spin, and congratulations — you've officially become Frank's favorite person.

Frank is looking for his very own best friend, adventure buddy, and partner in crime. Someone to teach him new tricks, spoil him with snacks, and share a lifetime of snuggles and shenanigans.

Kodiak took one look at the viral ghost trend and said he’d rather be a ghostbuster! 👻

He may not be ghost material, but he IS good-boy material. This calm, playful, affectionate guy is a total fetch fanatic. If you have a ball, you have his heart! 🎾

Check out this adorable black kitty from our Rehoming page! 🐈

This is Nova. 🖤Nova is a young kitty who is full of love and cuddles. She gets along so well with other cats. She is always in the mood to curl up on the couch and cuddle.

Nova, like any young cat, gets the zooms from time to time and loves to play with other cats when that time comes! Nova especially loves kids and has always been very patient while they learn to pet her and play with her. She is full of energy and especially loves her treats! Nova will be a great addition to anyone with a big heart to love her.

Since moving to our new building at 353 Banner Farm Road in Mills River late last year, our Community Support Center has become an essential part of how we serve pets and the people who love them in our community.

In February, we moved all of our Low-Cost Clinics to the new space, offering dedicated parking and more room to serve community members efficiently. Our Kibble Crew volunteers now gather in the warehouse to bag kibble, and our pet food and supply giveaways have expanded from twice a month to every Tuesday! We've also added 1-Year Rabies Vaccine Appointments at our Community Support Center, giving pet owners more flexibility to choose the location that works best for them.

Beyond these services, Banner Farm has hosted fundraising events, volunteer appreciation gatherings, staff activities, and even provided storage for Thrift Store donations. Every day, this space helps us find new ways to expand our mission and support our community.

One of the volunteers helping make it all possible is Connie Mields Perry, who has volunteered with BRHS for over two years in dog care, vaccine clinics, and our Community Support Market. When traveling to our Adoption Center became challenging, Connie found a way to stay involved by volunteering at Banner Farm.

"I wanted to give back. [I believe] if you've got the time you should do something that makes you happy. I love animals and this makes me happy," Connie shared.

For Connie, helping people is an essential part of helping animals. As she put it, "I love this organization because it helps everybody... I think everyone appreciates it. Everybody should be given a chance."

Access to pet food, affordable vaccines, and other resources helps families keep their beloved companions. And as Connie reminds us, "People love pets... you're giving them the opportunity to afford it."

We're so grateful to Connie and all our dedicated volunteers who help make Banner Farm a place where pets and their people can thrive. 🐾

House panther, void kitty, shadow floof... however you refer to your black cat, be sure to celebrate them today on National Black Cat Day! 🐈‍⬛

Since we currently don't have any black kitties available for adoption, check out this adorable Happy Tail from Winnie - a sweet house panther who was adopted from us a year ago!

"Winnie has become the joy of our lives. She is so affectionate, seeking belly rubs all the time. What a sweetheart she is. She can entertain herself as well, with her favorite toys being her collection of little toy mice. She loves chasing her mouse toy, throwing it up in the air, and then catching it."

Just look at this sweet, squishy, sleepy face 🥹

This big cuddle bug is Ludo! He’s been waiting for his new family for just over a month, and last week, he got a little change of scenery! Ludo headed to a foster home for some much-needed one-on-one time, a soft bed, and some playtime with friends (both 2 legged and 4) outside the Adoption Center. 🏡

Here's what his foster had to say about him:

"Ludo is doing so well! He and [my dog] play out in the yard. He is eating very well. Sleeps thru the Night. No accidents in the house. Never turns down an opportunity to go out in the yard! Ludo has met my granddaughters and they love him. Importantly, Ludo is excellent with my cat. He has not barked at all.

Ludo is like the perfect dog: dog/cat/kid friendly, housebroken, and well mannered. I'm surprised he has not been snapped up by some lucky family!"

Ludo is the kind of guy who just wants to be part of a family. He wants cozy snuggles, a soft place to land, someone to help him feel safe, and a home where he can shower his people with all the love he has to give.
