: Lenticular Sclerosis
A normal age-related change to the lens of the eye that can develop in middle-aged to senior pets. You will notice a bluish gray cloudiness over the pupil. This will typically occur bilaterally (in both eyes) and is pretty common in aging pets. This condition doesn't seem to affect vision significantly and is not painful. Most pets do not require treatment but should be monitored regularly by a veterinarian.

Lenticular Sclerosis is different from Cataracts. Cataracts is a more serious condition that can lead to vision loss and requires treatment. Complications can lead to pain and discomfort.

🎉🎂 Everybody help us wish Olivia a very happy birthday! 🎂🎉

Olivia is one of our awesome kennel attendants who somehow manages to keep up with wagging tails, muddy paws, zoomies, and the occasional escape artist—all with a smile. When she’s not spoiling the pets in our care, she’s spending time with her own furry crew, volunteering with farm animals, and teaching kids the do’s and don’ts of the animal world (because apparently goats, chickens, and cows don’t come with instruction manuals).

We’re so thankful to have Olivia on our team and hope her birthday is filled with lots of cake, laughs, and maybe just a little less p**p to clean up. 😂🐾

Help us wish Olivia a fantastic birthday in the comments! 🎉💙

: Pemphigus Foliaceus
Pemphigus Foliaceus is an autoimmune disorder affecting the skin. An autoimmune condition occurs when the body's own immune system mistankenly attacks organ, tissues, or healthy cells.
With pemphigus foliaceus the immune system attacks the protein that holds skin cells together causing cracking, scaling, and pus filled pimples on the skin. Left untreated, serious infections can occur.
Typically the first symptom noticed is pustules on the skin, usually beginning on the face and then moving to the neck and down the body. This condition usually has a symmetrical appearance meaning it occurs on both sides of the body rather than just on one side.
Since this is an autoimmune disease which comes from the immune system not functioning correctly, an immunosuppresant is prescribed. Medications for secondary infections may also be prescribed along with topical treatments when necessary.
This can occur in cats and dogs while it is more common in dogs it is still pretty rare.
There are certain breeds affected more commonly than others. These breeds include: Akitas, Chow Chows, Cocker Spaniels, Collies, Dachshunds, Dobermans, Newfoundlands, and Sharpeis.
