Happy Tuesday!
Today we wanted to post about some of our favorite chews at our local Chow Down Pet Supply Stores! We are stocking up for the 4th of July and here are our favorites:
Collagen Chew- available in regular or braided textures in different lengths and last our dogs all night on the 4th of July.
No hides- these no hides are a great option if you have a dog who can't or doesn't like hard chews. My dogs go through these faster but enjoy them just as much and they come in multiple flavors!
Himalayan Yak Chews- these chews are cheese flavored which is great if your dog needs some extra motivation. These chews are also grain and gluten free if your dog has any intolerances.
Pupsicle- This treat toy is amazing! It is a lick toy rather than a chew but is long lasting. You can buy refills for it or build your own recipes and freeze them in the plastic mold.
Kong- the old stand-by of the Original Kong is a great way to stuff and freeze. Here is a 4th of July recipe for the Kong or you could use it for the Pupsicle as well!
I hope you guys will try some of our favorites and that they will become your dog's favorites too!

Your best friend deserves the best meals and treats. KONG Cuisine is here to help! Check out our recipe and all of the other recipes prepared by our awesome contributors!

Human food. We all know it happens so let's talk about it. Sometimes we just can't refuse THE LOOK, especially when we're having a BBQ. Here's some foods that our dogs can't have at a BBQ:
Grapes/Raisins- in a dessert
Chocolate
Anything with xylitol- a sweetner
Garlic/Onions- be careful of bratwurst
Avocado
Mushrooms
Alcohol/Caffeine
Too much salt- hot dogs/ brats
Blue cheese- because of the mold
Raw potatoes- because I usually drop some on the floor after I've cut them up
Certain vinegars- because marinades and BBQ sauce is a must!
Cooked bones- they splinter easily
BBQ sauce- for it's potential spices and ingredients
Honorable mentions- bread, cinnamon, and corn on the cob for safety
Don't forget to practice your Leave it and Drop it before the BBQ!

After your dog learns a beginners "Leave it", now you can teach your dog to leave items in real life in different situations. To review a beginners "leave it"...

Prepping for the 4th of July!
With the 4th of July three weeks away we have some games for you to try with your dog to get them ready for the festivities. This week's game is to feed your dog with a noisebox. When you dog is eating out of a noisebox they realize that they are the source of the noise and decide that the noises are not a big deal. To create a noise box you can take any size container and put objects in it that make noise. Think of objects that click, crunch, or clack like empty water bottles with pennies in them, kids playpen balls, cans, paper, plastic, the list is endless. After that go ahead and put kibble in the box and encourage your dog to interact with it. The goal is that your dog moves the items out of the way to get to the kibble therefore making noise. If your dog is noise sensitive, start with small sessions with less objects in the box and build up from there. When you are using the noisebox make sure to supervise your dog while playing this game.
