Spark Rescue Santa Barbara

is a non profit 501c (3) charity rescue organization whose focus is finding permanent homes for disadvantaged dogs and cats in southern Ca.

We do not have a shelter, but are foster based only. Spark Rescue Santa Barbara is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit charity animal rescue organization, founded in February 2014, in Santa Barbara Ca. We are a foster based rescue that relies on people opening their home and hearts to saving animals in need. Spark Rescue Santa Barbara provides:

Rescue, foster care, veterinary care, and sterilization for animals in county animal shelters that would otherwise be euthanized. Rehoming for animals surrendered by their owners who either can no longer provide for their pets or no longer wish to have them in their homes. Adoption of rescued pets to qualified homes that have been properly screened and counseled by our adoption coordinators. Foster homes to provide our rescues with a loving home environment. We believe a dog or cat will do far better adjusting when they are part of a family then to be cared for in a noisy kennel surrounded by sick and barking dogs. Spark Rescue Santa Barbara's Vision
Our vision is to end euthanasia in Southern Ca by bringing adoptable pets (that were slated for euthanasia) into our program for social rehabilitation and re-homing to permanent loving homes. To educate the public on the importance of spay and neutering their pets! To provide help for those who cannot afford to have their pets altered. To sway our government to have harsh penalties for people that continue to breed their pets without a breeders license. We want to be a valuable resource to our community. We believe that one person can make the difference in the life of an animal, so as an organization, we have more strength to help more animals. Spark Rescue Santa Barbara's vision in the near future is to acquire land and have the ability to rescue and house as many animals as possible. A place where the animals will be free to roam and socialize but still be in a family environment. Where potential adopters can come visit our rescues. Where volunteers can come together and give the rescues as much love and attention as possible. If you are able to foster an animal in need please contact Spark Rescue Santa Barbara. We do require a commitment from you to house and care for the animal until the animal is placed in their forever home. We do understand that many people love animals but cannot afford to donate but may have items they are no longer using we are always in need of collars, harnesses, leashes, blankets, beds, potty pads, toys, crates etc. Your donation is tax deductible. Available Now Lennon🐾
Meet Lennon — a tiny, lively 4-pound charmer looking for a soft and thoughtful forever home.
Lennon is a six-month-old puppy with a big personality packed into a very small package. At just 4 pounds, he’s bright, playful, and full of spark. He loves gentle interaction, soft toys, and being part of the household action in his own way. He’s the definition of a lap-sized companion who brings a lot of joy with very little space.
Lennon is also impressively smart. He’s about 90% housebroken (yeah!), and he already knows sit, stay, and come. He is crate, trained, and sleeps through the night.
He does best in a calm, careful home that puts his safety first so he can enjoy life to the fullest. . The right home will help him stay active and happy while protecting those little bones.
He’s an ideal match for a quiet adult household. He does best with no jumping on or off furniture and no rough play. He would do well as an only dog or with another dog around 10 pounds (an older, slower dog can work great too). Short, supervised, low-impact enrichment and plenty of gentle affection are perfect for him. Lennon is a companion dog who flourishes with attentive people who are happy to adjust the environment and routine so he can be his lively, curious self.
Lennon deserves an amazing home that will keep him safe while letting him enjoy the simple joys of being a dog. 🐾Dexter Is Home🐾
Dexter is the sweetest little bichon boy, and he finally found the home he always deserved with Dana — she just adores him. ❤️
His story with us started the hardest way. When his family moved, they left him deserted in their backyard, abandoned by the only family he’d ever known. A neighbor noticed and reached out to Nancy at Spark Rescue. Nancy opened her home as a temporary foster until we could find a local foster. Thank you to Susan Chalec for stepping up and opening her heart and home to him.
Dexter is just one of so many dogs and cats who deserved so much better from the start. The only way we stop this endless cycle of unwanted animals being deserted, abandoned, and euthanized in our shelters is mandatory spay and neuter. Every single one of them should be cherished and loved from the day they are born.
If you see someone walking an unaltered dog, please talk to them. If your neighbor has an unaltered dog or cat, have a conversation. If you know of anyone breeding, talk to them first — then call Animal Control. We have to stop creating more animals who will only end up unwanted.

Meet Nico!
This handsome guy had a tough start. Nico came from an abusive home and was then surrendered to a high-kill shelter, but he's shown incredible resilience. He's about 17 months old, and his sweet, silly nature and gentle demeanor make him a true companion. He might be a bit shy at first, but once he feels comfortable, you'll see his happy side shine through.
Nico is a Border Terrier mix who weighs 18 pounds. He's potty, crate, and leash trained, and he's excellent with dogs and cats too!

🐾 Meet Bonnie 🐾
This sweet 6½-month-old Terrier–Poodle–Chihuahua mix (best guess!) is pure sunshine — high-energy, eager to please, and already learning her manners like a champ.
Bonnie is crate trained, house trained, and wonderful with both dogs and cats. She’s gentle, friendly, and super adaptable, making her a perfect fit for an active family. Bonus: her low-shedding coat and love of people make her an easy favorite.

This sweet 1.5-year-old schnauzer/poodle mix was saved from a high-kill shelter in Southern California — and she’s ready for her forever family!
Jovi is pure joy with a soft side. She lives for belly rubs, is crate trained, house trained, and walks beautifully on a leash. She’s a little shy at first, but once she trusts you, that happy, loving personality shines.
💖 Ideal Home:�Jovi does great with or without another dog as long as there’s plenty of love. She thrives on brisk walks, adventure, and a patient, nurturing home that helps her come out of her shell.

🐾Meet Cotton 🐾
This adorable 18-week-old male Keeshond mix (our best guess) weighs just 8 pounds but his personality is absolutely huge. Cotton is an affectionate little dynamo who’s basically made of love and zoomies.
He already has excellent recall, knows to potty outside, and is crate trained. Once he finishes his puppy vaccinations, we’re confident leash training will be a breeze—Cotton is eager to learn (and to show off what he knows).
He’s quiet, playful, and incredibly sweet. Cotton loves playing with other dogs and is friendly with cats, too. Whether you’re looking for an amazing companion or a second dog, this tiny fluffball with a big heart could be your perfect match. 💙

🎉 Mateo is HOME❤️
After a couple of years in rescue, our sweet, special boy has found the most perfect mom in Heather — and we couldn’t be more excited and happy for him.
Mateo came to us at just 4½ weeks old and has already been through so much in his short life. To see him arrive at this extremely happy new beginning fills our hearts completely.♥️

🐾 Meet Tulla 🐾
This little sweetheart was born March 3, 2026, and at just 8 pounds, she's not expected to grow any bigger! We believe Tula is a sweet mix of Maltese, Poodle, and Havanese, and she's every bit as adorable as that sounds. 💕
Tula is crate trained, knows to go potty outside, and is learning her leash skills. She loves a good rough-and-tumble with her foster siblings, but mostly she loves being in her foster mom's lap, however she can get there! 🥰
She's smart and sweet. Her hair grows fast, so she'll need regular visits to the groomer to keep her looking her best. ✂️
🏡 The perfect home for Tula is a single person or a family, with or without another dog, who will include her in their day-to-day life as a true member of the family.
