Today our hearts are heavy as we say goodbye to our beloved Duke.
Duke was our gentle giant. Every morning he made sure he was the first to greet me, and if I dared to start my day without kissing his nose, he would gently bump me until I remembered what truly mattered first—loving on him. That was Duke. Kind, patient, and full of quiet love.
He spent his earlier years traveling long trails through Yellowstone, his kind eyes taking in countless breathtaking views. When he retired to our family, he quickly became everyone’s favorite giant sidekick. Duke carried friends and family on slow, calm trail rides, always steady and sure-footed. He never cared if his rider was young or old, big or small—he took the very best care of every soul lucky enough to sit on his back.
To me, Duke was the most gorgeous boy, and he knew it. Many mornings he simply followed me around the farm as I worked, content just to be near me. Farmer H shared so many peaceful trail days with Duke, and Duke loved being treated like the royal “Duke” he was named after—soaking up every bit of that attention.
Our family is grieving deeply today. Farm checks and mornings will feel painfully quiet without our big guy running over for a hug or a quick treat. The space he filled cannot be replaced.
Duke, you were more loved than you could ever imagine. Thank you for every gentle step, every quiet moment, and every reminder to slow down and love fully. You will be missed beyond words. 🤍🐴
Going to miss those little hoof prints on such a big guy.
