🐾 Dr. Rozsypal’s Word of the Week: Polydactyl 🐾
Have you ever seen a cat or dog with extra toes? That’s called being polydactyl!
👉 “Poly” means many and “dactyl” means digits/toes.
👉 Most cats have 18 toes (5 on the front paws, 4 on the back). A polydactyl cat can have 20, 22, or even more! Dogs can also be polydactyl, though it’s less common.
✨ Fun Fact: Sailors once considered polydactyl cats to be lucky and extra skilled mousers because their wider paws helped with balance on ships.
Polydactyl pets are perfectly healthy, and those extra toes just add to their charm. 🐾💙
Do you know a polydactyl pet? Share a picture below—we’d love to see their special paws! 📸
