📣 Dr. Rozsypal's Word of the Week!
🧠 Nystagmus 🧠

Ever seen rapid, involuntary eye movements in a cat or dog? That’s called nystagmus – and it's our word of the week!

👁️ Nystagmus can be a symptom of neurological or inner ear issues, but in some cases, like our spotlight pet Mya 🐾, it can be a benign genetic condition.

✨ Meet Mya, a stunning Snow Lynx Bengal and beloved kitty of our receptionist Savannah! Mya was born with congenital nystagmus, causing her eyes to move rhythmically – but she’s healthy, happy, and full of sass 😻Look closely and you'll see her eyes doing a little dance!

💬 If you’ve noticed anything unusual in your pet’s eyes or movements, don’t hesitate to call us!

🩺 Dr. Rozsypal’s Word of the Week: Mucocele
Pronunciation: /ˈmyü-kə-ˌsēl/

A mucocele is a pocket of mucus that builds up when a duct (like a salivary or bile duct) gets blocked or damaged. While it sounds like a fancy word, it simply means “mucus swelling”—and yes, our furry friends can get them too!

🐾 In dogs and cats, mucoceles can occur in:
🔹 The gallbladder – where mucus can block bile flow and lead to serious illness
🔹 Salivary glands – causing swelling under the tongue, jaw, or neck
🔹 Other ducts in the body that carry fluids

Common signs include swelling, pain, vomiting, trouble eating, or even yellowing of the gums or eyes.

👩‍⚕️ Dr. Rozsypal and our team often diagnose mucoceles with imaging like ultrasounds. Early treatment is important—especially if a rupture is possible!

📚 Dr. Rozsypal’s Word of the Week: Libre

This week, we’re highlighting the Freestyle Libre, a game-changing device in managing diabetes in our feline and canine companions!
Libre is a small, wearable glucose monitoring system that allows us to continuously check blood sugar levels without repeated pokes. It helps us catch trends, avoid dangerous highs or lows, and fine-tune insulin doses — all with less stress for your pet.
And who better to spotlight than one of our favorite diabetic patients using a Freestyle Libre...

🎉 Patient Spotlight: Gizmo Favale 🎉
Gizmo has been part of the Glendale Animal Hospital family for over 11 years — and what a journey it’s been! From wellness exams and routine dentals to yearly shave-downs, fun mohawks, and now diabetes management, Gizmo has become a beloved regular around here.

We are beyond grateful to his amazing family, who has always trusted us to care for him through every phase of his life. Their dedication, kindness, and love for their pets never goes unnoticed. 💙

Huge shoutout to Gizmo’s family – thank you for letting us be part of his life and for being such incredible advocates for your furry family members!

🐾 Gizmo Favale and Family – you are this week’s shining stars! 🐾
