🐾 STAFF SPOTLIGHT: GET TO KNOW DR. RANDY PERKINS! 🐾

This week, we’re excited to introduce Dr. Randy Perkins!

Dr. Perkins has been part of the Glasgow Veterinary Medical Center family since June 1986 — that’s 40 years of caring for animals and serving our community! ❤️

A little bit about Dr. Perkins:

🐱 At home, he has two cats, Sam and Jon Snow, along with 8 hens who keep him supplied with fresh eggs!

💻 Some of his favorite things include computers and spending time with his beautiful family.

🐾 His favorite parts of veterinary medicine are diagnostics and surgery.

❤️ His interest in veterinary medicine started back in the early 1970s after a local veterinarian, Dr. Potts, visited his family’s farm and inspired him to pursue the field.

🦁 One of his most memorable clinic moments? Having someone bring a full-grown lioness into the office!

✈️ His dream vacation was to return to Europe with his grandfather who has now passed, and traveling through Germany, where his grandfather was once stationed.

After four decades of caring for animals, Dr. Perkins has made a lasting impact on our clinic and the families we serve.

🎃👻🐾 Happy Howl-oween from all of us! 🐾👻🎃

Halloween is full of fun, costumes, and sweet treats, but it's important to remember that many holiday goodies can be dangerous for our furry family members!

🍫🍬 Candy is NOT safe for pets! • Chocolate can be toxic to both dogs and cats. • Sugar-free candy and gum may contain xylitol, which can cause serious illness in dogs. • Candy wrappers can create choking hazards or intestinal blockages if swallowed. • Keep trick-or-treat bags, candy bowls, and Halloween decorations out of your pet's reach.

🐶🐱 While everyone is enjoying the festivities, be sure your pets have a quiet, secure place to relax, especially if you're expecting lots of trick-or-treaters at the door. The extra excitement can be stressful for some pets and may even lead to accidental escapes.

🎃 A little prevention can help make Halloween safe and enjoyable for the whole family!

Meet the Heart & Soul of Veterinary Medical Center! 🐾

With so many new followers joining our page, we thought it was the perfect time to introduce the amazing people who make Veterinary Medical Center what it is today. Over the next few weeks, we'll be introducing our doctors and staff members, and we're starting with the heart and soul of our practice... Dr. Heltsley ("Doc") and Mrs. Sandra Heltsley! ❤️

Both Doc and Mrs. Heltsley are originally from Hopkinsville, Kentucky. Dr. Heltsley founded Veterinary Medical Center in 1984, and Mrs. Heltsley joined him as Office Manager to help build a practice that both they and the community could be proud of.

Before joining the clinic, Mrs. Heltsley earned her Master's Degree in Education with a double major in Mathematics and Health & Physical Education. She taught school for several years before the family moved to Glasgow. Before opening his own practice, Dr. Heltsley proudly served our country for 24 years, including 9 years of active duty service, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

When the clinic first opened in 1984, it was located elsewhere and provided services for small animals, exotics, cattle, and horses . In 2004, they purchased our current location and transitioned to small animal medicine, allowing them to continue serving generations of local families and their pets.

Outside of work, family is everything to them. They love spending time with their five children, and their spouses, fifteen grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Mrs. Heltsley enjoys skiing and is known to be a pretty impressive card player. Doc used to enjoy playing tennis and basketball, and these days you can often find him telling jokes, delivering donuts, or hunting down a good deal on one of his favorite meals... steak and shrimp! 🥩🍤

One of their favorite memories from the clinic is when a snake escaped from a local carnival and somehow found its way into the large animal area of the veterinary clinic! 🐍

What they love most about their work is building relationships with our clients and their pets. Their goal has always been to help pets stay healthy and to get them well when they're sick. Most importantly, they want every client to know that when you walk through our doors, you are family, and that's exactly how you'll be treated.

Their message to our clients:

"We feel very blessed to have each of you as clients. Your pets are like family to us, and we truly appreciate the trust and confidence you place in our entire staff."

Our clinic would not be what it is today without Doc and Mrs. Heltsley. For over forty-two years , their dedication, hard work, and love for this community continues to make a difference in your pets lives. ❤️

🐾 Double the dachshund cuteness! 🐾

Jessi stopped by Veterinarian Medical Center to hang out with us and get some extra love while her mom picked up her monthly flea & tick prevention! 🥰🐶💙 Prevention is important ALL year long!

And of course, our employee pup Moose had to join in on the fun! 🐾💕

And you know what that means… boarding spots at Glasgow Veterinary Medical Center disappear QUICK. If your crew needs a cozy place to stay, call now and snag a spot while we still have openings!

✨ IMPORTANT BOARDING REMINDER ✨
Please make sure ALL pets are fully up‑to‑date before coming in for boarding to help make sure you pet stays healthy and safe while your away!! Fall break gets busy fast, and having everything current helps us keep things running smoothly.

Dogs need: HWT, f***l, DA2PP, Bordetella, Influenza, Rabies
Cats need: F***l, FVRCP, Rabies

If your pet needs anything updated, we can schedule an appointment ahead of time so they’re all set for their stay. 🐾
