You may have noticed a large influx of small dogs here at GCACE, sadly, many of them coming to us in very poor condition😔

Lambchop ID #: 61137548 (pictured below) came in with both Mabel ID #: 61137763 and Dipper ID #: 61137756. We don't know how 3 tiny dogs found themselves lost in such a big world, we just hope they weren't purposefully left💔

Lambchop is struggling the most here at the shelter. Mabel and Dipper were able to be groomed by a local groomer who generously volunteered to help. Lambchop is far less tolerant and with the matting so severe, it's likely he will need sedation.

Lambchop is understandably defensive and panics when a leash is placed overhead, but once he finds his way into a quiet staff office where he feels safe, he enjoys pets. We are looking for a calm place where this little guy can begin his healing.

Meet Luna💗

This pointy eared girl comes to us as a stray, unfortunately without any ID tags or a microchip - leaving us nowhere else to search for a family that might be missing her🥺

Luna has not been with us very long and she is still settling in. She can be easily startled and becomes "flighty." Because of this, we are looking for breed specific or experienced handler placement for Luna. We understand that fearful dogs require extra safety measures (secure fencing and direct supervision, double leash methods, etc.) to prevent her from escaping while she is still learning to trust.

Some dogs need extra time and unfortunately that's very hard to find in an overcrowded shelter😔

This Tuxedo kitty comes to us as a stray. Upon intake he was covered in oil so we suspect he might have found his way under a car hood or possibly into mechanic shop where his exploring got him into some trouble😅 Our responding officer bathed him right away and as you know most cats are not tolerant of this, but it's as if Mac knew we were trying to help💙

Unfortunately, we discovered that Mac has an ear infection and he is currently under treatment for this. He has also begun overgrooming which is typically a stress related behavior😔 We are hopeful in finding a foster home or rescue organization that can help Mac during his continued treatment. Being kept in a small kennel is no fun for this boy with such adventurous nature in his heart.

Barney and Spud are here at the shelter following the passing of their owner😔They are both quite shut down as all of this is very new to them. Being removed from the only home they knew is a traumatic experience for any animal.

Barney was actually adopted from us several years back🥺 We can tell he was well loved by the condition he returns to us in! He's not missed any meals or snacks, he's remained HW negative, and his coat and skin are healthy. We did find that Spud has Grade 4 dental disease and will very likely need full mouth extractions but otherwise comes to us with no other health concerns.

Barney did join dog playgroups with other dogs similar in size to him, he is fairly aloof and seems to prefer being around other gentle/calm dogs that will give him space. At this time, he is not interested in play or persistent engagement with other dogs but of course this can change as he decompresses.

Meet Todd🐾

Todd luckily wandered onto a property with very kind people that could quickly tell he wasn't in a healthy condition. They brought him to a nearby Veterinarian to check for a microchip and then we were alerted so Todd could be helped.

Upon intake Todd was dehydrated and was provided with sub q fluids. Todd has a very poor body condition score (2/9) weighing just over 5lbs. There are some bloodwork abnormalities as well - decreased creatinine, mild hypernatremia, decreased ALP. Todd has started antibiotics and his overall activity level has started to improve. We've also noted that Todd has heavy dental tartar and root exposure and will require dental care.

Life hasn't been easy for Todd but he remains in such good spirits. We are hoping one of our rescue partners will be able to help this boy have the best golden years that are still to come💛

Zara ID #: 61085768 comes to us after her owner entered a care facility😔 She has had a difficult time adjusting to the shelter environment as the past 7 years old her life have looked very different.

Right now, Zara is very timid. We are hoping to find a calm and quiet environment (by foster home or rescue transfer) where she can decompress and begin to take in this big new change. The best suited foster home would be adults only and have previous experience with fearful behaviors.

Meet Ron🐾

Ron comes to us as a stray and upon intake we knew something was very obviously wrong. He was lame with limited weight bearing on both hind limbs. Radiographs show chronic changes in the right pelvis and coxofemoral joint, suggestive of a severe old injury😔 We can't imagine how excruciatingly painful this must have been without any medical intervention💔 It is now likely that he will need his right hind limb amputated. We are hoping to find a rescue organization that can help provide the care this dear boy is needing🥺
