🎃 Halloween is almost here! Keep your pets safe with these tips from Twin Tails Veterinary:

1️⃣ Keep the candy out of reach. Chocolate and sugar-free treats (especially those with xylitol) can be toxic. Store candy bowls and trick-or-treat bags safely away from curious noses.
2️⃣ Create a safe space. The doorbell and costumed visitors can be stressful. Give your pet a quiet room with their bed, toys, and water to relax away from the action.
3️⃣ Watch your decorations. Glow sticks, candles, and cords can be hazardous if chewed or knocked over. Opt for battery-operated candles and keep cords out of reach.
4️⃣ Check costumes for comfort. Make sure any outfit fits properly, doesn’t restrict breathing or movement, and has no small pieces your pet could swallow. Always supervise while they’re dressed up!

👻A little preparation goes a long way to keep your furry friends happy and safe this spooky season!

Meet the Team Monday 🐾

As we close out our Meet the Team Monday series, we’re thrilled to shine the spotlight on Dr. Amy Smagala, co-owner of Twin Tails Veterinary Hospital! 🌟

Last week, we celebrated her sister and fellow co-owner, Dr. Jenni, and today we’re highlighting the other half of the amazing duo who built Twin Tails from the ground up.

Dr. Amy earned her B.S. in Animal Science from the University of Delaware, followed by a Master’s degree from Drexel University. She then attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine to complete her veterinary training.

For the past 14 years, Dr. Amy has worked as a small animal general practice veterinarian, first in South Jersey and most recently in Springfield, PA. Outside of work, she enjoys traveling, spending time with friends and family, and curling up on the couch with a good book and her three cats.

Together with Dr. Jenni, Dr. Amy has created the welcoming, compassionate hospital our community loves. We couldn’t think of a better way to conclude this series than by celebrating both of the women who made it all possible. 💙🐾

To conclude our celebration of National Veterinary Technician Week, we’re spotlighting Dana!

Dana began her career in veterinary medicine in 2015 as a kennel attendant and quickly advanced into a veterinary technician role, driven by her deep passion for helping animals. That passion was sparked during college, where she gained hands-on experience rehabilitating wildlife like sea turtles and penguins—an experience that gave her a unique perspective on animal care and behavior. She brings that same compassion into every interaction with your pets, treating each one as if they were her own.

At home, Dana stays busy with her own furry family, which includes a Basset Hound and three quirky cats. When she’s not caring for animals, you’ll likely find her on the soccer field or cozied up watching a good horror movie.

With nearly a decade of experience and a heart for animals of all shapes and sizes, Dana is dedicated to treating every pet like family because paws-itively nothing matters more!

Dr. Jenni and Dr. Amy share, “Dana is liked by all and will have everyone laughing in no time at all. She can do anything you ask of her and does it with a little joke and a smile. She is a great asset to our team!”

Thank you, Dana, for the positivity, warmth, and talent you bring to our team each day. We’re so lucky to have you!

🌟 To conclude our celebration of National Veterinary Technician Week, today we’re highlighting Sarah!

Sarah, a Licensed Veterinary Technician, brings compassion, skill, and heart to everything she does. Originally from New Jersey and New York, she’s called Delaware home since 2012. Sarah graduated from the University of Delaware in 2019 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Pre-Veterinary Medicine and Animal Biosciences and a minor in Equine Science, where she also conducted undergraduate research on the equine microbiome and raised two German Shepherds for The Seeing Eye.

This past March, Sarah completed her Associate’s Degree in Veterinary Technology from Penn Foster, furthering her commitment to providing the highest quality care to every patient she meets.

Sarah is passionate about treating each pet as if they were her own. She loves building lasting connections with both pets and their families and enjoys every stage of care, from puppy training and socialization to supporting senior pets in their golden years.

She currently lives in Northern Delaware with her husband, her German Shepherd Jelly, and her cat Louise. When she’s not working, you can find her hiking, reading, or spending time at the beach.

As Dr. Jenni and Dr. Amy say, “Sarah is always prepared for what’s coming next. She is our in-house expert angry dog and cat whisperer and someone you always want on your team. We couldn’t do it without her!”

Thank you, Sarah, for your dedication, compassion, and the calm confidence you bring to every patient and teammate. We’re so grateful to have you on our team! 💙
