🐾 Community Health Reminder 🐾
We’ve recently been made aware of reports of increased kennel cough activity within our local dog community. We wanted to take a moment to remind everyone that, while we work incredibly hard to maintain a clean, healthy environment and do everything we can to help reduce the spread of illness, no vaccine is 100% effective at preventing infection or transmission.
The kennel cough vaccine is designed to help reduce the risk of illness and, if a dog does become infected, it often helps lessen the severity of their symptoms.
A good comparison is the flu vaccine for people. Receiving a flu shot doesn’t guarantee that you won’t get the flu, but it often helps make the illness much milder if you do become sick.
It’s also important to remember that dogs are a lot like young children in daycare. They explore the world with their noses and mouths—sniffing, licking, sharing water bowls, and interacting closely with one another. Kennel cough can spread through respiratory droplets, direct contact, and even through the air, meaning dogs can be exposed in many different places—not just daycare.
If your pup develops a cough, sneezing, nasal discharge, lethargy, or any signs of respiratory illness, we kindly ask that you keep them home until they are feeling better. If you’re unsure whether your dog should attend daycare, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’d much rather answer your questions than risk exposing other pups.
