Did you get it right? IVDD actually shows up in different ways depending on the breed:
1️⃣ Type 1 IVDD (common in Dachshunds & other long-bodied breeds): This type happens when a disc suddenly herniates or “slips”, often causing acute pain, weakness, or even paralysis- think of it like a jelly donut exploding. It can come on quickly, sometimes after something as simple as jumping off the couch.

2️⃣ Type 2 IVDD (more common in larger breeds like German Shepherds): This form is more gradual, where the disc slowly bulges over time and puts pressure on the spinal cord- more of a slow leak than a blowout. Signs can be subtle at first, like stiffness, reluctance to move, or decreased activity.

The takeaway? IVDD doesn’t look the same for every dog, and catching it early can make a huge difference. If you have one of these breeds, or another at-risk breed, don't wait for symptoms to show up. We love helping pet parents stay one step ahead. Come see us for tips, screenings, and peace of mind. 🐶

We are so excited to have Riley join our team as a Veterinary Technician at Long Hollow Animal Hospital. She brings a passion for veterinary medicine, a love for all animals, and a kind, caring presence that fits right in with our mission of compassionate, quality care.

Riley recently made the exciting move from Illinois to Tennessee in search of new adventures after spending her whole life in the Midwest! She has been working in the veterinary field for 7 years and is passionate about continuing to learn and grow in veterinary medicine. Riley loves working with all species of animals and enjoys building connections with both pets and their people.
At home, she has a lovable dachshund named Dexter and an adorable chinchilla named Fuzz who keeps life entertaining! She also has her boyfriend, Connor, by her side and along for the adventure as they explore all that Tennessee has to offer together.

Outside of work, Riley enjoys exploring antique stores, discovering new coffee shops, and spending quality time with friends and family. Her adventurous spirit, compassion, and love for animals make her a wonderful part of the Long Hollow Animal Hospital team!

Small changes like hesitating to jump, sleeping differently, or a messy coat might not seem like a big deal… but they can be early signs of joint pain. If something feels “off,” trust your instincts. We’re here to help you figure it out and keep your cat comfortable.
