Three Little Pitties Rescue Save Lives with Us! Our rescue saves dogs and cats from streets & shelters in the Houston area, finding them loving homes across the U.S. & Canada.

We adopt out with transport stops in WA, OR, UT, ID, OH, VA, CT, NY, VT, PA, TN, KY, IN, IL, WI & MN! The animals that come into our program are placed in foster homes or boarding, given time to decompress and receive proper medical treatment, then they are posted for adoption in northern states for families like you to adopt!

Since last week, life at Three Little Pitties has looked different.

We have a confirmed case of canine distemper in our program, and our team immediately put containment protocols into place to protect the nearly 1,000 animals currently depending on us.

The reason we’ve been so transparent about this outbreak is not because we want sympathy. It’s because rescue isn’t always the happy adoption photos and success stories that everyone sees online. Sometimes rescue is hard. Sometimes it means responding to challenges you never wanted to face and doing the work anyway because the animals need you.

This is one of those moments.

And while it hasn’t been easy, we are incredibly grateful for the support we’ve received from our community. Every donation, every supply order, every adoption application, every foster application, every share, and every encouraging message has helped remind us that we are not carrying this alone.

Thank you for standing with us.

Our days are now filled with additional testing, temperature checks, symptom monitoring, quarantine procedures, medication protocols, deep cleaning, disinfecting, and carefully separating exposed animals from healthy ones. It is a tremendous amount of extra work for a team that was already stretched thin, but these dogs are counting on us, and we are committed to getting through this.

The good news is that we have a plan, we are following strict protocols, and we are doing everything possible to stop this illness from spreading further.

***Many of the animals in our program remain healthy and are still looking for families. While some dogs are temporarily unable to travel as we complete quarantine and observation periods, we need adopters now more than ever.

Every adoption lined up today means another dog can head home as soon as they are medically cleared to travel.

The animals currently in quarantine are receiving close medical attention and daily monitoring. They are not facing this alone. Our team is working around the clock to make sure every exposed animal receives the care and support they need.

This situation has created significant unexpected expenses. Donations are helping provide diagnostic testing, medications, cleaning supplies, protective equipment, quarantine care, and the resources needed to keep our animals safe.

The reason we’ve been so transparent about this outbreak is not because we want sympathy. It’s because rescue isn’t always the happy adoption photos and success stories that everyone sees online. Sometimes rescue is hard. Sometimes it means responding to challenges you never wanted to face and doing the work anyway because the animals need you.

This is one of those moments.

And while it hasn’t been easy, we are incredibly grateful for the support we’ve received from our community. Any sick dogs are receiving supportive care, being closely monitored, and have access to treatment immediately as symptoms appear. They are not facing this alone.

Over the last several days, our team has been painstakingly tracing the movements, contacts, and histories of hundreds of dogs to ensure we are making thoughtful, informed decisions about every animal in our care. Every quarantine hold, every test, and every movement restriction has one goal: preventing further spread and protecting the healthy animals in our program.

We are also incredibly fortunate to be working under the guidance of three veterinarians with extensive experience managing distemper outbreaks. Together, they are helping direct our testing protocols, treatment plans, quarantine procedures, and clearance requirements so that we can move animals forward safely and responsibly.

Because of these efforts, we remain optimistic.

Many of our dogs were never exposed and remain healthy and available for adoption. Others are progressing through observation and quarantine periods and will be cleared to travel as soon as they meet the criteria established by our veterinary team.

Our focus right now is simple: care for the dogs who are sick, protect the dogs who are healthy, and continue moving forward safely so we can get back to saving as many lives as possible.

We have a plan. We have expert guidance. We have an incredible team. And most importantly, we have nearly 1,000 animals worth fighting for.

We’re staying focused, staying vigilant, and moving forward one day at a time.

Today alone, we submitted 29 distemper PCR tests at $131 each—$3,799 in testing costs in a single day.

With nearly 1,000 animals in our program, testing is one of the most important tools we have right now. The more information we have, the better decisions we can make about quarantine, treatment, and safely moving animals forward.

The good news is that we are not navigating this alone.

We are working closely with three veterinarians who have extensive experience managing distemper outbreaks. They are helping guide our testing strategy, containment protocols, treatment plans, and the criteria we use to determine when animals can safely be cleared and moved forward.

While we do have dogs currently under quarantine and observation, we also have many healthy dogs in our program that were not exposed to the virus and are still looking for homes. Others are progressing through quarantine and will be cleared for travel soon.

One of those dogs is little Millie.

Today, she started eating the baby food that supporters sent through Amazon. It may seem like a small victory, but around here, we celebrate every step forward. Seeing her appetite return gave our team a much-needed reason to smile.

Our focus remains simple: contain the virus, care for the animals affected, protect the healthy animals in our program, and safely move dogs into loving homes as they are cleared.

Happy Father’s Day to all the dads who show up.

The dads who didn’t exactly plan on becoming “dog people,” but now have a rescue dog glued to their hip. The dads who build the fences, hold the leashes, load the crates, clean the messes, and swear they “aren’t keeping this one”… right before falling completely in love.

Rescue doesn’t happen without people who just keep showing up. The foster dads, dog dads, cat dads, transport dads, volunteer dads, and the dads who love our animals like they’ve been theirs all along.

Day Three.

The last few days have been intense, but we want to share where things stand.

When we received confirmation of canine distemper in our program, we immediately activated containment protocols. Since then, our team has been working around the clock testing, monitoring, quarantining exposed animals, increasing sanitation procedures, and providing additional medical care where needed.

The reason we’ve been so transparent about this outbreak is not because we want sympathy. It’s because rescue isn’t always the happy adoption photos and success stories that everyone sees online. We are continuing to identify exposed animals and monitor them closely, which is exactly why these protocols exist. Distemper is a disease that requires patience, diligence, and strict containment measures, and that is where our focus remains.

Most importantly, we have a plan.

Right now, our priority is caring for the animals that were exposed, protecting the animals that were not, and helping dogs successfully complete their quarantine and observation periods so they can move on to the next chapter of their lives.

We also want everyone to know that we still have many healthy, adoptable dogs waiting for families. Some have not been exposed at all, while others are simply working through precautionary quarantine holds and will be cleared very soon. Every adoption application submitted now helps us prepare for the moment those dogs are ready to travel home.

The faster we can safely move healthy dogs into loving homes, the faster we can create space and resources to continue saving more lives.

This response has created significant unexpected expenses. We are spending thousands on testing, medical care, cleaning supplies, quarantine needs, and additional support for the animals in our care.

Yesterday was one of those days in rescue that just sits heavy on your chest.

We fought hard for Duchess. Everyone did. She had people loving her, watching her, praying over her, and doing everything they could to save her.

But distemper is cruel, and our girl didn’t make it.

Rest easy, Duchess. We are so sorry. You mattered so much.

And today, even with broken hearts, we have to keep moving. Because there are still so many dogs depending on us, and right now we are doing everything we can to protect them.

Testing. Quarantine. Cleaning. Moving dogs around. Making hard decisions. Trying to stay ahead of something that feels impossible.

We don’t know what the next few days are going to look like. We wish we did. We wish we had better answers. But what we do know is we are going to keep fighting.

To our Three Little Pitties family,

We’re not really sure how to write this.

We have a confirmed case of distemper in our program.

Because of that, we have to make some very hard decisions immediately. We are pausing portions of our operations while we figure out exactly what we’re dealing with and how we protect the 970 animals already depending on us.

And before we say anything else, we need to be honest:
we need help right now.

If you are able to help, we are asking you to stand with us. The costs of testing ($131 each), quarantine, cleaning supplies, housing, and emergency protocols are mounting quickly, and with a drastic slowdown in intake and adoptions, we are genuinely scared about finances.

We also urgently need Houston-area fosters with vaccinated, healthy dogs at home to help us safely separate animals during quarantine.

If you’ve followed us for a while, you know that we are not people who stop. We don’t close our doors. We don’t walk away from animals. We don’t give up when things get hard.

But right now, we are scared knowing that while we’re forced to slow down, dogs all across Texas are still running out of time.

Shelters are still filling up.
Dogs are still being abandoned.
Puppies are still being born in ditches.
And euthanasia lists don’t pause just because we’re in a crisis.

That is the part that is absolutely ripping us apart.

The truth is, we were already struggling.

The Petfinder changes hurt us badly starting at the end of 2025 and have continued to hurt. Adoptions slowed. Dogs started sitting longer. Kennels are staying full.

Then came the New World Screwworm situation. States started closing their doors to Texas dogs. Transport became harder fast.

We were already carrying the weight of all of that.

And now this.

Right now it feels like we are fighting a battle on every front and losing ground no matter how hard we push.

The hardest part is knowing there are dogs we won’t be able to help right now.

We are going to do everything we can to contain this, protect the animals in our care, and get through it.

But we would be lying if we said we’re okay.

We’re heartbroken.
We’re overwhelmed.
We’re exhausted.

If you’ve ever loved one of our dogs, fostered for us, volunteered with us, shared our posts, donated a few dollars, or simply believed in what we’re trying to do, please stand with us right now.

Pray for us.
Pray for these dogs.
Pray that this outbreak stays contained.
Pray for the animals sitting in shelters that desperately need a rescue to say yes.

We are going to keep going because the dogs need us to.

Tiny Peanut is officially adopted. ❤️

And goodness, this one feels so good.

The Baseball Litter came to us absolutely loaded with worms. Every single one of these puppies needed help, but Peanut was our tiniest little thing and by far the one we worried about the most.

She was so sick when she came in. Every little bit of weight gain felt like a huge win, and there were definitely days when we were holding our breath and hoping she would keep moving in the right direction.

Now look at her.

Healthy. Happy. Full of puppy energy. And officially spoken for.
Peanut hasn’t made it to her forever home just yet, but knowing she has a family waiting for her is the best feeling.
The rest of the Baseball Litter is doing amazing too. They’ve come such a long way from those early days, and now they’re the ones still waiting to be chosen.

We are so excited for Peanut and her future family. Now let’s find the rest of her brothers and sisters families of their own. ❤️⚾
