Circe, Penelope, and Helen are making the most of every last bit of sunshine with some serious pool time! 💦🐶 And honestly…why are these girls still here?!

These sweet girls are the total package: fun, affectionate, playful, and already know how to sit! They’re the kind of dogs who are always ready for an adventure, but are just as happy to hang out with their people and soak up some love.

At this point, we’re pretty sure the only thing missing from their summer is YOU! ☀️🏡 Come meet one of these sweet Odyssey girls and see if your next adventure buddy is waiting for you!

🐾 What an incredible night at the Paw BQ! 🎉

We are still feeling the love after APS-FH’s first-ever summer gala held right here at the shelter! 💛

With beautiful summer weather, live music from Seagrass, delicious Texas BBQ, cocktails, and our shelter grounds transformed for the occasion, the Paw BQ was an unforgettable evening celebrating the pets, people, programs, and community partnerships that make our work possible.

Throughout the evening, our staff had the opportunity to share more about the many ways APS-FH serves our community: from sheltering, adoption, foster care, and lifesaving transports to low-cost veterinary services, behavior and education programs, and resources that help local families keep the pets they love. And, of course, our mascot Skipper kept things entertaining as our enthusiastic (and occasionally mischievous!) microphone courier. 🐶🎤

Most importantly, we were overwhelmed by the generosity of everyone who attended, donated, volunteered, sponsored, partnered with us, or supported the Paw BQ from afar. Because of you, the evening was an extraordinary success!

Thank you as well to the wonderful local businesses, vendors, and community members who helped make the evening possible. And an especially big THANK YOU to our incredible APS-FH volunteers and staff.

Our first Paw BQ at the shelter was truly an evening to remember. Thank you, San Juan Island, for showing up for APS-FH and the animals and families we serve.

🏡✨ 24 HAPPY ADOPTIONS IN AUGUST! ✨🏡

August was a big month for happily ever afters here at APS-FH! 24 wonderful animals found their people, their couches, their adventures, and most importantly, their forever homes. 🐶🐱

Every adoption is a reminder of what’s possible when a community comes together for animals in need. We’re so grateful to every adopter who opened their heart and home, every foster who helped an animal get ready for their next chapter, and every volunteer, donor, and supporter who makes these happy endings possible.

Happy Home Day, August crew! 🎉🏠

Traveling with your cat? Cover that carrier! 🐱🚗

A simple towel or light blanket over your cat’s carrier can make a BIG difference when you’re on the go.

Cats can feel overwhelmed by unfamiliar sights, sounds, people, and movement. Covering their carrier helps create a cozy, secure “hideaway” and reduces visual stimulation, which can help keep them calmer and less stressed.

Next time your cat hits the road, bring their little privacy curtain along! 🐈‍⬛🧳

Calling all cat whisperers!

Clementine is looking for a patient hero to show her that the world isn’t a scary place. Due to recent unfortunate events in Clementine’s life, she has been through many transitions in the last year, and the most recent one has found her living at the shelter.

Right now, Clementine is shut down and scared. She is so overwhelmed by shelter life that she spends most of her time frozen and hiding. Mostly, she is just terrified and needs a safe place to decompress at her own pace, settle in, and begin to understand that she is finally safe.

Because of this, we are open to two different types of homes:

🏠 Option 1: A quiet indoor home where she can decompress.
- A patient foster home or adopter.
- A small, low-traffic spare room with zero pressure to interact.
- Someone with experience with fearful cats.
- A calm environment with no loud noises, busy kids, or active dogs.
- No pressure for Clementine to become a lap cat or seek affection right away.

🌳 Option 2: An indoor/outdoor setup (a working cat or barn home) where she is provided with support
- A secure outbuilding, shop, barn, or hobby farm.
- A safe, enclosed space to acclimate for the first 3-4 weeks.
- Regular food, fresh water, and shelter provided daily.

Whether she chooses to live inside as a quiet companion or outside as a working cat, Clementine just needs a chance. Can you open your heart and property to save a life?

We provide all the guidance you need to help her settle in safely. Contact APS-FH at (360) 378-2158, or [email protected] if you are interested in learning more information.

Please share, comment, or tag local animal lovers to help Clementine find her perfect match!
