Hello everybody! As the island busy season begins, we have gotten a handful of no call no shows. Effective immediately all no call no shows or appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours notice, will incur a fee equivalent to the appointment cost. Throughout Covid we did our best to remain flexible with last minute changes but we must enforce our policies once again. We have a waiting list and can often fill your spot or reschedule your pup if given proper notice. Please reach out to us with any questions!

We hope you had a fun and safe Halloween.

We have an important notice for all new clients - please read!

We are aware that unfortunately one of the island grooming salons has closed its doors. Many of you are needing to find a new grooming spot for your pets. We have limited availability as we are an already busy salon. Please do not stop by the salon to inquire about an appointment. We work with pets all day and can not come to the door if you come by. Please only text or call us. Response times to inquiries are longer than normal, please be patient.

We can be reached at 425-620-5971. If you call us, you must leave a message in order to receive a call back.

Hello All- please take a moment to read updated booking information. We are busier than ever, which is wonderful! We appreciate each and everyone of our clients. However this means prebooking is necessary. Same day services can not be accommodated. We highly recommend prebooking your pets next visit at pick up time of their current appointments.
*We are still accepting new clients but there may be a wait to get your pup in. Our schedule fills up 2-4 weeks in advance presently. Please contact us before your dog needs a groom or nail trim to get on the schedule. We are currently only accepting new clients who would like to bring their dog on a regular schedule of 1-8 weeks between appointments*

Important Notice to all of our current and future clients-
We are busier than ever! We are so thankful for each and every client we get to serve. As the weather turns warmer and schedules get busier, you may need to reschedule or cancel a current appointment for your pup. We request a minimum of 24 hours for canceling or rescheduling appointments. We are happy to help accommodate your schedule when possible.

Not showing up to your appointment without notice may result in a no snow fee of $30. We only schedule one dog at a time, so your appointment is yours only. When the pups do not come in, we are left unable to serve any clients during that time. We often have a wait list we can pull from if we are given notice.

Thank you for understanding and we look forward to seeing you!

We are in the beginning stages of a cold snap here on the islands! The local shelter has put together some great tips on keeping your pets safe!

~WINTER WEATHER SAFETY TIPS FOR PETS~

With increasingly cold weather on the way, it's VERY important to consider our furry friends...

Follow these tips to keep animals safe and comfortable in the cold.

KEEP PETS SHELTERED
• Keep your pets inside with you and your family. Under no circumstances should pet cats be left outdoors during extreme cold weather, even if they roam outside during other seasons. Dogs are happiest when taken out frequently for walks and exercise, but kept inside the rest of the time. Don’t leave pets outdoors when the temperature drops!

BUNDLE UP, WIPE DOWN
• No matter what the temperature is, windchill can threaten a pet’s life. Exposed skin on noses, ears, and paw pads are at risk for frostbite and hypothermia during extreme cold snaps. For this reason, short-haired dogs often feel more comfortable wearing a sweater – even during short walks.
• Rock salt and other chemicals used to melt snow and ice can irritate the pads of your pet’s feet. Wipe all paws with damp towel before your pet licks them and irritates their mouth.

REMOVE COMMON POISONS
• Antifreeze is a deadly poison, but it has a sweet taste that may attract animals and children. Wipe up any antifreeze spills immediately and keep it, like all household chemicals, out of reach. Coolants and antifreeze made with propylene glycol are less toxic to pets, wildlife, and family.

PROTECT OUTDOOR ANIMALS
• If there are outdoor cats, either owned pets or community cats in your area, remember that they need protection from the elements as well as food and water. It’s easy to give them a hand. Keep in mind that water dishes may freeze. Check water frequently.
• You can make your own cat shelter quickly and easily with a plastic tub.
• Cars are one of many hazards to small animals – warm engines in parked cars attract cats and small wildlife, who may crawl up under the hood. To avoid injuring any hidden animals, bang on your car’s hood to scare them away before starting your engine.

SPEAK OUT
• If you encounter a pet left in the cold, politely let the owner know you’re concerned. Some people genuinely don’t know the risk that cold weather poses to their pets or livestock and will be quick to correct any problems you address. If someone you raise these concerns with responds poorly or continues to neglect their animals, please report concerns to the San Juan County Sheriff’s Department at (360)378-4151.

Please keep an eye out for this pup on your walks near Jackels Lagoon and South Beach. This girl made as escape from her owners a few days ago and has been running around scared. Please call the shelter or sheriff if you see her and do not approach! Thank you for your help in reuniting this sweet girl and her family!

~1/13/21 ****QUEENIE IS HOME!!!!!!****

It is with GREAT relief, excitement, and joy to announce that Queenie, the infamous runaway, is back home safe and sound. It couldn't have been done without community efforts; including reported sightings, awareness, volunteer work, and finally the assistance of professional trappers and one extra large cage!
Thank you to everyone who has helped bring this sweet girl home.
If you would like to contribute in celebration of her return or to help with what has been an exhaustive effort on behalf of APS-FH, you can donate through our website or PayPal here:

_______________________________________________________

1/5/21 - Queenie has left the American Camp Park, and we've now had multiple reports of sightings on private property. She was last seen on Douglas heading towards Little Rd.

It is still imperative that NO ONE attempts to approach her if seen and that the shelter is called ASAP with any sightings and for further instructions. 360-378-2158. If it's after normal business hours, please call the Sheriff's Office at 360-378-4151.

!!!Please, please drive carefully as she has been seen on the roads as well!!!

______________________________________________________

12/29/20 - We'd like to start off by saying thank you so much for the outpouring of community support and concern regarding Queenie. Sightings continue, but she still remains distant and on the run. We would like to make an announcement that moving forward, the shelter will be the main point of contact for any reported sightings, questions, or concerns. Our number is (360)378-2158. We are working on getting her to come regularly to an undisclosed location where we are feeding her every day. This will be an ongoing process in order to get her safely back. We continue to rely on sightings for confirmation that she is still doing ok...advice remains the same: do NOT approach, call, follow, or feed her.
_______________________________________________________________________

12/25/20 - Another sighting on Hazel/Queenie today. This is promising as she is sticking around the area where we want her to be. We are offering her food in a sheltered spot and a trail camera is set up to see if it’s indeed her that takes the food. Please keep your positive thoughts going. This has been a stressful event for everyone and will most likely be an a process to get her back. Sightings remain important to know that she is alive and well, but the advice remains the same....do NOT approach, call, follow, or feed her. Report any sightings immediately to the numbers posted. Thank you!

____________________________________________

12/24/20 - Hazel/Queenie still continues to be sighted in and all around American Camp. We cannot stress this enough...IF YOU SEE HER CALL IMMEDIATELY WITH A LOCATION AND AS MUCH DETAIL AS POSSIBLE. Do not call for her, run after her, or engage in anyway! We have an action plan, but she is essentially being chased all around right now. In order to help her we will need her to be remaining in the same area. She will not do this if she feels like she is being pursued. We will no longer be posting updates of the areas of the latest sightings.

Please know that we are doing everything we can to get her back home and safely and we appreciate everyone’s efforts to help.

___________________________________________

12/22/20 - Hazel/Queenie is still LOST and on the run. The last confirmed sighting was near 4th of July Beach at about 12pm on Tuesday, 12/22/20. She has been seen in various locations throughout American Camp from the Cattle Point Lighthouse to the Visitor’s Center. She is still scared and frightened and is bolting when approached or seen. Hazel is a very skittish dog and is not used to people. She no longer has her harness or leash attached to her. It’s going to be a community effort to help get her back home. The most important thing right now is that we get a location on her whereabouts so the responsible parties and people/animals she knows can spring in to action.

How can you help?

DO:
• Report any sightings immediately
• Inform any neighbors or visitors to the area of her situation and proper ways they can help
• Post up, bring binoculars and wait for sightings in a location somewhere in/near the areas where she has been seen
• Remain quiet and unobtrusive
• Walk the trails with your friendly dog (on leash if in the park)

DON’T:
• Approach, follow, chase, sneak up, or try to FEED her
• Call out or yell
• Stare at her
• Try to grab her or catch her

CALL:
