Well, the heat wave is finally here. We have a few tips that can help keep your pets safe from this excessive heat.
The most obvious one should be is to not leave them in the car. Cars will get hot quickly shortly after it’s turned off.
Protect your pets paws from hot surfaces. If you’re going on a quick trip, there are wonderful croc like dog shoes that let their feet breathe that my pups enjoy to wear. For long walks or hikes, our go to shoe is ruffwear grip trex and have a sole just like regular shoes. I always swipe on some of our paw wax once their shoes are off to moisturizer their feet afterwards.
Always have extra water out for your pups. With the hotter weather, they will be a bit thirstier than normal.
When taking your dog out for walks, do it early in the morning or later in the evening when it cools down. Make their walks shorter with breaks here and there so they have time to cool down and relax.
Even with all of the precautions, keep your eyes peeled on your pups more just incase of signs for heat stroke. The warning signs are excessive painting, drooling, vomiting, rapid heart rate, reddened gums, and lethargy. If they are showing these signs take them to a vet asap.
Keep your pets cool during this heat wave and have them take this week as easy as possible.
