Before our dogs are 5 months old a lot of people practice so many skills your dog becomes a master of none. Recall being the biggest one! We like to train name recalls especially for multi dog house holds. If you raise your dog hearing their name in 30 different contexts “fluffy no “ “fluffy stop” “fluffy sit” “fluffy paw” then the name loses clarity.

Decide what behavior you want your cues to create and stick to that picture!

What do dogs NEED?

People are quick to believe dogs need more treats, more toys in a toy basket, more time running around aimlessly in the yard. We often quickly outsource the job of raising our dogs to puzzle toys and other distractions.

People are slow to dedicate time and meaningful attention to their dogs. Often wondering “why won’t my dog OBEY my command”. It’s because you are not being a leader, you’re a roommate.

Ours dogs need us to give them outlets, attention, training, exposure, and understanding how we and our environment impact their behavior. Only then will you be giving your dog what they need

HOW LONG DO I NEED TO TRAIN WITH MY DOG?!?

if you’re lucky you GET to train with your dog many years. A lot of people few obedience like a punch card. Once they’ve done it enough times BOOM! It’s done and they get the gift of a trainer dog. In reality you should train with your dog intentionally every day.

A lot of dogs wander the house, flip puzzle toys, run the fence in the yard and people wonder, why don’t they listen to me? It’s because we aren’t working their brains, we throw iPads at them and tell them to entertain themselves until we want to pet them.

If you dedicate 3x 10 minute sessions a day to intentionally improving a skill you will guaranteed see a more responsive and less stubborn dog. Training is crucial for your relationship with your dog, and your dogs well being. This isn’t about giving commands it’s about teaching their body to move, helping connecting their brain to action, strengthening the relationship with FUN rather than compliance
