Hot summer day? Think beyond the water bowl. 🍉

This recipe is hydrating + refreshing + packed with antioxidant-rich fruits and basil. 🍉🌿

On hot days, keeping pups hydrated is especially important. Dogs rely primarily on panting to release heat, but they don't cool themselves as efficiently as we do—so fresh water, shade, and a cool environment are essential. These frosty bites and pops are a fun bonus way to add extra water to their day. 💦🐶

Watermelon is mostly water, and it provides potassium and other nutrients that support hydration. It’s also rich in lycopene, a powerful antioxidant that helps protect cells from oxidative stress.

And don't forget the basil! 🌿 It's packed with polyphenols and antioxidants that can help support your dog's natural defenses against oxidative stress.

Bonus: They're kid-approved, too!

🍉 Frosty Watermelon Bites & Pops Recipe

INGREDIENTS
• 2 cups watermelon, cubed and seeds removed
• 2–3 fresh basil leaves (or ½ teaspoon dried basil)
• ¼ cup kefir or plain Greek yogurt
• Blueberries, optional

FOR THE BITES:
1️⃣ Add watermelon, kefir or yogurt, and basil to a blender. Puree until smooth. If your pup prefers a thinner consistency, add a little filtered water.
2️⃣ Pour into your favorite silicone mold and freeze.
3️⃣ To serve, thaw slightly in the refrigerator until the treat is no longer a solid block of ice.

FOR THE POPS:
Want to make them look like a watermelon popsicle?
1️⃣ Puree the watermelon and pour into popsicle molds, leaving some room at the top.
2️⃣ Add blueberries and freeze.
3️⃣ Once frozen, add a layer of kefir or yogurt and freeze again.
4️⃣ Blend the basil with filtered water, pour over the frozen watermelon and yogurt layers, and freeze again.

Want more healthy recipes for your pup, and some the whole family can enjoy? You’ll find plenty in our book The Forever Dog LIFE. 🍉🐶❤️

🐾 FOSTER NEEDED FOR FINN — FOSTER OR FOSTER-TO-ADOPT 🐾
We are looking for a very special foster home for Finn, a sweet 4 year old dachshund who needs someone willing to give him the time, patience, and consistency he needs to succeed. ❤️
Finn has been with his family for almost two years. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, they have struggled with his house-training. Finn came from a breeder where towels were put down for the dogs to use as a bathroom, and we believe this may have contributed to some of his confusion about where it is appropriate to potty.
Finn does not have any current medical issues. He was treated for a UTI, but a medical cause for his accidents has been ruled out.
His biggest challenge is urinating and marking inside the home. Finn does not lift his leg indoors; he squats and marks. He is crate trained and will not soil his crate as long as there isn't a bed or blanket inside. When taken outside, he will potty, but sometimes comes back inside and finishes on the rug. His current family works during the day, so he doesn't have someone home to closely watch for the signs that he is getting ready to mark.
We truly believe Finn could make progress in a home where someone is home more often and can recognize those signals, get him outside quickly, and praise and reward him for going in the right place. With consistency, supervision, patience, and positive reinforcement, we are hopeful that Finn can learn better habits. ❤️
Finn currently lives with two larger female dogs, and he gets along well with them. He is a typical stubborn dachshund — he definitely has a personality! 😂 But underneath that dachshund stubbornness is a very sweet boy who does not show aggression.
We know Finn is going to be a more challenging placement, and we want to be upfront about that. He needs someone who understands that bringing him into their home may require extra patience and management. But we also believe that the right person could make a tremendous difference in his life. 🐾
Could you be that person for Finn?
We are looking for a foster home or foster-to-adopt home willing to give Finn the structure, supervision, and patience he needs while helping him work through his house-training challenges.
If you think you might be interested in fostering or adopting Finn, please contact the rescue. Even if you can't foster or adopt him yourself, sharing Finn's post could help us find the right person for this sweet boy. ❤️🐾
