Brachycephalic pets are especially prone to overheating in hot weather due to their short snouts and restricted airways. They can’t cool themselves as efficiently as other animals, making them much more vulnerable to heatstroke. It’s important to monitor them closely, keep them in cool environments, limit outdoor activity, and ensure they always have access to fresh water. Quick action and awareness can make all the difference. ☀️ 🥵 🔥🐾

🚨Why Spaying Your Cat or Dog Could Save Their Life🚨

Spaying your pet isn’t just about preventing unwanted litters—it’s about protecting their health.

One serious risk for unspayed female cats and dogs is a condition called pyometra—a dangerous infection of the uterus that can happen after a heat cycle. It causes the uterus to fill with pus and, if untreated, can be fatal. Symptoms include lethargy, vomiting, fever, and a swollen belly. Treatment usually requires emergency surgery.

Spaying your pet eliminates this risk.
It also helps prevent certain cancers, reduces behavioral issues, and helps control the pet population.

If your pet isn’t spayed yet, give us a call! A simple procedure can make a lifetime of difference. Protect your pets. Prevent suffering. Spay and neuter.🐾🩵

Not only do April showers bring May flowers, but they also bring a puddle of problems for our furry friends. When it rains, harmful substances like motor oil, fertilizers, pesticides, and other pollutants are washed off roads, sidewalks, and lawns into areas where dogs often walk or play. These toxic residues can cling to their paws or fur and may be accidentally ingested when they lick themselves. Plus, standing water can harbor bacteria or parasites that pose serious health risks. Symptoms of exposure can include vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, or skin irritation. So while the rain might freshen the air, it can leave behind some not-so-fresh dangers for our pups. Give us a call if your pet needs help! 🌸⛈️ 8176320333

Let’s talk about annual bloodwork! Is it really necessary for your pets? YES! Annual bloodwork is a key part of your pet’s preventive care—it gives us a baseline of what’s normal for them, making it easier to detect changes early. Even if your pet seems healthy, bloodwork can reveal hidden issues with organs, blood cells, or sugar levels before symptoms show. By checking it yearly, we can catch problems sooner, start treatment earlier, and help keep your pet healthier, longer. Has your pet had their bloodwork done this year? Call us if you need to make an appointment or have questions!

Why are annual f***l tests important?? Intestinal parasites are common in both dogs and cats and include worms like roundworms, hookworms, tapeworms, and protozoa like giardia and coccidia. Some, like tapeworm segments, may be visible in stool, but many parasites and their eggs are microscopic and can’t be seen with the naked eye. Pets can get them by ingesting contaminated soil, water, f***s, or infected prey, and some can be passed from mother to offspring. Symptoms may include diarrhea, vomiting, weight loss, a bloated belly, scooting, or visible worms. Regular vet check-ups, routine deworming, flea control, and prompt waste cleanup are key to prevention. Good hygiene and avoiding contaminated areas help keep both pets and people safe!🪱🐕🐈

What do we see under the microscope during an ear cytology? Here’s a bacterial rod infection! Ear cytologies are vital for accurately diagnosing infections, as ears can be affected by bacteria, yeast, or both. Identifying the specific cause ensures the right treatment, helping to prevent ineffective therapies, antibiotic resistance, and chronic infections. Signs of ear infections in dogs include redness, swelling, odor, discharge, head shaking, and scratching at the ears. Worried about your pet? Reach out to us! (picture from our microscope)🔬 🐾❤️👂🏼
