What Patriotism Means in Community

Patriotism is more than a flag or a holiday. At its best, it reminds us that we are part of something larger than ourselves — a shared community shaped by service, responsibility, and care for one another.

Memorial Day asks us to pause and recognize the cost of the freedoms we live with each day. It also invites us to consider how we carry those freedoms forward: by showing up with respect, supporting the nextgeneration, and building spaces where people feel seen, valued, and connected.

At The Happiness Ranch, those values are reflected in the quiet work of the ranch — through mentorship, stewardship, and the healing bond between people, horses, and community.

A horse never asks who you were yesterday.

It doesn’t replay your failures.
It doesn’t whisper your regrets back to you.
It doesn’t measure you by old mistakes.

To a horse, your past has no weight.

Tired after a long battle.
Hopeful but unsure.
Strong on the outside… yet quietly carrying something heavy within.

And somehow, standing beside a horse feels different.

There is no pretending.
No explaining.
No proving yourself.

Just a steady heartbeat next to yours.
Just warm breath in the cool air.
Just eyes that see you without judgment.

In a world that constantly reminds you of who you used to be,
a horse only responds to who you are right now.

That is the magic of the human–horse connection.
That is the power of equine healing.

Sometimes healing does not come from long conversations.
Sometimes it comes from silence.
From presence.
From a gentle nudge that says, without words:

You are enough.
Right here. Right now.

Maybe the horse doesn’t hold onto yesterday
because it is teaching you not to either.

And maybe that is the real lesson.

We have a few horses with Cushings disease and get asked frequently what it is, what causes it, why is it common in senior horses and how do we manage it. I came across this great article that covers all those questions and more! We work very closely (Dr Miller with the Animal Clinic in Fort Lupton) with our awesome vet and farrier ( Schindler) to make the best management plan for the individual horse. Having a great team is essential to the well being of our animals. Yes we use this supplement along with others depending on the horses needs💜
