Popcorn Park Animal Refuge was established in 1977 for the sole purpose of providing a refuge for wildlife that were sick, elderly, abandoned, abused, or injured, and which could no longer survive in its natural habitat. In a short time and as the need arose, we expanded to include exotic and domestic farm animals. All our residents once faced these

circumstances, as well as exploitation and illegal ownership. You may be greeted at the gate by a parade of peacocks, around the corner you’ll see African lions, tigers, mountain lions, primates as well as native wildlife such as white-tailed and fallow deer, and American black bears. Farm animals such as horses, donkeys, llamas, sheep, pigs and goats often look for some visitors, and reptiles and tortoises enjoy their own special places. In addition, you'll find numerous species of birds have made themselves comfortable throughout the park. But what makes Popcorn Park so special is that each animal was rescued from suffering, exploitation and/or death - each has its own unique story to tell.

Jonathan and Jules the tigers have come a long way… figuratively and literally.

These tiger siblings spent their early years in several Canadian zoos before settling at Cherry Brook Zoo in 2017. But when the zoo announced its closure in 2020, they were once again in search of a home.

Despite efforts to relocate them within Canada, no institution could offer them a permanent place to stay.

That’s when we knew we had to help!

After two years of careful planning and coordination, with help from Granby Zoo and Tigers in America, Jonathan and Jules made the long journey from Canada to New Jersey. In July 2022, they arrived at Popcorn Park and finally found their forever home.

Now, we’re thrilled to see them thriving in a newly renovated space made just for them. Follow along with Jonathan and Jules and help us continue providing them with the care and enrichment they deserve💛 Learn more here: https://ahs.givecloud.co/our-wildlife-club

Who’s planning a lazy weekend with Maryann? ☀️ 🐻

Just like us, bears love to stretch out in the sun and soak up the warmth! And despite their size and strength, black bears spend a lot of time resting to conserve energy.

Happy National Pet Bird Day!

Today is a special day to shower your pet birds with plenty of new toys and appreciation❤️ It’s also a day to educate about responsible bird ownership and the commitment it takes to care for them.

The majority of our birds came into our care after their owners could no longer care for them. Birds have a multitude of needs from social interaction, training, amd plenty of enrichment. If you don’t think you can commit to a pet bird, you can still help support the birds at Popcorn Park and receive photos and updates through our Wildlife Club: https://ahs.givecloud.co/our-wildlife-club

In a short time and as the need arose, we expanded to include exotic and domestic farm animals. All our residents once faced these circumstances, as well as exploitation and illegal ownership.
