GUARDIAN OF STILLNESS
— Poem for the Lhasa Apso,
Ancient Tibetan Treasure

In cloistered halls where silence rings,
Where wind meets prayer on eagle wings,
A lion walks with humble grace,
Hair like clouds, and time-worn face.

Born of mountain, bred for peace,
He watched the world from monasteries.
No hound of hunt, no beast of brawl —
But sentinel in sacred hall.

The monks would chant, the butter lamps glow,
And he would sit in firelight’s flow.
A heartbeat soft upon the floor,
A whisper guarding Dharma’s door.

Not prized for tricks or feats of might,
But for his gaze—clear as starlight.
A soul attuned to breath and bell,
He kept the truths the manuscripts tell.

The world moved fast beyond the stone,
But he remained, serene, alone.
Ancient, wise, with purpose true —
A monk once said: He watches you.

So let the winds howl down the slope,
This dog was born of prayer and hope.
A lion small, yet spirit wide —
The Lhasa walks where gods reside.
