These horses with the curly coat are a rare and beautiful breed, coming in different conformation types, but generally with a wonderful disposition that usually makes them great beginner horses. They are not just Curly Horses, but the curly coat seems to be also hypoallergenic. People who suffer from horse allergies often react ve

The goals of the ABCR are to preserve this rare breed, to promote the Curly Horse as much as possible in shows and in the media, provide education about the special features of the horses, and to protect the genetic pool of the small breed population worldwide.The ABCR has registred over 4,100 Full, 750 Straight and 750 Part Bred Curly Horses since 1971 and is the largest Registry for American Bashkir Curly Horses worldwide. For more than 40 years, volunteers have been providing leadership for the American Bashkir Curly Registry, serving the enthusiasts of this unique horse breed with registration services, information and marketing support. Over the past several years, the ABCR has become officially organized in Canada and Europe. With this expansion, the American Bashkir Curly Registry is now an international registry. They have a wonderful laboratory and are offering webinars for everyone who is interested in learning more about how the genetics are tested and what the results mean. Hello friends of Curly horses it's time to renew our membership. To renew your membership we have a couple of choices; first, as a member you can pay the $40 annual membership fee via Paypal, Venmo or check sent to office. If you are interested in breeding we offer a discount for both, $70. Click the shop tab and and you will see both options. Your annual membership dues covers our Curly Cues magazine and current DNA (pedigree) data base as well as promoting this wonderful breed. As volunteers no fees are paid to board members. REGISTRY SERVICES: Expect all Horse Registry Services at ABCR like issuing Pedigree Certificates, DNA sampling, Horse transfers or re-issue of missing paperwork.
DNA RESEARCH: We can research all our DNA profiles if needed. This way we can check if animals qualitfy as offspring or parents of another animal.
FREE SEARCHABLE ONLINE STUDBOOK: ABCR provides a fully linked ABCR Curly Horse Studbook ONLINE with more than 7,500 entries and currently 2,400 pictures including all ABCR horses. You can surf the fully linked pedigrees with pictures, explore full and half siblings, see the offspring and have a look at reverse and vertical pedigrees. You can also do trial matings and use the ABCR name generator.
COEFFICENT OF INBREEDING (COI) AND PEDIGREE QUALITY: ABCR offers COI in correlation with the pedigree quality for all ABCR horses online. We encourage all of our breeders to check the COI before breeding, because a COI of below 1 % is recommended to avoid inbreeding depression within a population (DGfZ (1992)).
SIBLINGS VIEW: ABCR offers siblings views for all ABCR horses online. Find full and half siblings of a given ABCR animal at-a-glance.
VERTICAL PEDIGREES: ABCR offers vertical pedigrees for all ABCR horses online. Vertical pedigrees list full siblings of each horse in the pedigree at-a glance, which as a group represent various combinations of their parents’ genes, and are good indicators of the range of possibilities that are likely to be passed on. Using vertical pedigree analysis gives breeders interesting insights e.g. about confirmation or the extreme characteristic that cannot be tracked in a direct manner.
REVERSE PEDIGREES: ABCR offers reverse pedigrees for all ABCR horses online. Reverse pedigrees show offspring of the offspring of a given animal.
TRIAL MATINGS: Try out matings between ABCR horses and look how the confirmation or other characteristics would match.
NAME GENERATOR: Generator for horse names based on more than 40 years of ABCR Curly Horse names – always new and fancy combinations, fun guaranteed!
