Genesee County Animal Care Volunteers Mission: To network and help the animals of Genesee County (MI) Animal Control find homes and rescues, along with helping the community.
(2)

The reason for this page is simple, to help save as many as we can. The administrators are very active VOLUNTEERS at the Genesee County Animal Control that are in the kennels each week socializing our homeless dogs and cats. We spend countless hours trying to network and save these animals by advertising, and trying to find rescues and adopters. We many times have animals that are not at the shelt

er that are in need. Flint and the surrounding area is in desperate need of help for our animals. There are few rescues in our county to help move our homeless dogs and cats along. Please help us share the animals we post on this page so that they can all find the homes that they deserve.

❤️ IF SOMEONE ASKED ME TO PICK A FAMILY DOG TODAY, I'D PROBABLY SAY CHICO. ❤️

No, really. Out of all the dogs sitting in the shelter right now, Chico is one of the easiest dogs to recommend.

Why? Because he's the kind of dog that makes you think: “Yep. That's somebody's dog."

Not someday.
Not after months of training.
Not after a long list of requirements.
Right now.

He has that easygoing, happy personality that just fits into a family.

He's met young children—including kids under 5—and has done wonderfully with them.

He's affectionate without being overwhelming.
Playful without being chaotic.
Fun without being exhausting.
The kind of dog who is just genuinely enjoyable to be around.

He is:
✨ About 2 years old and 58 pounds
✨ Meets with kids under 5
✨ Dog meets required
✨ Friendly, sweet, and full of love

And here's what makes his situation so hard to understand:
He's been waiting for over 60 days!

Meanwhile, families are out there searching for a good dog.
A family dog.
A dog that can join them on walks, hang out in the backyard, ride in the car, curl up on the couch, and be part of everyday life.

That's Chico.
That's literally Chico.

If someone came to us and said:
"We want a dog that's young, friendly, good with kids, and easy to love."

We would walk them straight to him.
Every single time.

So if you've been thinking about adding a dog to your family, stop scrolling for a second.
Take a look at Chico.

Because we have a feeling that years from now, the family that adopts him is going to say: “I can't imagine life without him." ❤️

🏆🐾 HANK MIGHT BE THE BEST DOG NOBODY IS TALKING ABOUT. 🐾🏆

Every shelter has that dog.
The one everyone who spends time with absolutely loves.
The one volunteers rave about.
The one staff members recommend.
The one that somehow keeps getting passed by.
For us, that's Hank. ❤️

A volunteer recently took him on a day trip, and by the end of the day she was asking the same question we all ask: “Why is this dog still here?" Because Hank checked every box.

Hank is:
🚗 Great in the car
🚶 Wonderful on a walk
👧 Calm and polite around lots of children
💦 Confident enough to stroll right into the Flint River
🧺 Sweet, cuddly, and happy just spending time with his person

No drama.
No chaos.
No constant demands.
Just a genuinely good dog.

And honestly, those can be the hardest dogs to get noticed in a shelter.

But if you're looking for the dog that's going to fit naturally into your life, be your adventure buddy one day and your couch companion the next... You should be looking at Hank.

✨ About 2 years old and Around 60 pounds
✨ Dog friendly
✨ Easy to walk
✨ Best with children around 7/8+
✨ Friendly, affectionate, and easygoing

He's reached the point where he's becoming one of our longest residents, and we simply cannot understand why.
Because if someone described their dream dog to us, Hank would be awfully close.

Maybe his family isn't looking for him.
Maybe they just haven't met him yet.

🌸💔 CHICLETTE IS THE KIND OF DOG YOU ROOT FOR 💔🌸

Some dogs capture your heart the moment you meet them.

Chiclette is one of those dogs.

This sweet little girl is back at the shelter, and honestly, she's having a hard time.

The noise, the constant activity, and all the change are a lot for a sensitive soul.

What she really wants is simple:
A soft place to sleep.
A person she can trust.
A home where she can finally exhale.
And once she feels safe? ❤️
That's when you see the real Chiclette.

The playful side.
The silly side.
The affectionate side.
The little girl who loves attention from her people and just wants to be close to them.

She is:
✨ 3–4 years old and 46 pounds
✨ Potty holder at the shelter
✨ Sweet, playful, and affectionate
✨ Dog meets required
✨ Older children recommended
✨ May do well with cats with slow, proper introductions

Chiclette has been through more uncertainty than any dog should have to experience, yet she still chooses love.

She still wants to trust.
She still wants a family.

And that's what makes watching her sit in a shelter kennel so heartbreaking.
Because we know there is an amazing dog behind those worried eyes.
We know there's a loyal best friend waiting to emerge. And we know that somewhere out there is a person who will look at her and say, “You're safe now." 💕

💔 LOOK HOW FAR HE'S COME 💔

Tank has come so far... but his journey isn't over yet.

When Tank and his brother first arrived at Genesee County Animal Care, it was impossible not to cry. They were nothing but skin and bones. Every rib showed. Their bodies told a story of neglect and hardship no dog should ever have to endure.

Tank was just a baby, around a year old, and weighed a heartbreaking 29 pounds.

No dog should have to know that kind of hunger.

But look at him now.

❤️ He's gaining weight.❤️ His personality is blossoming.❤️ He's playing ball.❤️ He's giving kisses.❤️ He's learning that people can be kind.

Most of all, he's learning what it feels like to be loved.

Tank isn't asking for much. Just a second chance. A family who will feed him, love him, protect him, and show him the life he should have had all along.

As you can see, this sweet boy has come so far.

Now he just needs someone to help him take the final step... home.

🐾 About 1 year old🐾 Dog friendly and can meet & greet with other dogs🐾 Pretty easy to walk🐾 Older kids recommended

Please share Tank's story. Someone out there is meant to see him.
