On May 25th we had a series of unfortunate events where my Tango got a cut a bad, bad cut.
- We were trail riding and crossed a creek and believe a stick must have come up and got him. I knew he was immediately not okay. He carried me to a bigger opening where we found this happened. My boy was non weight bearing and bleeding awful.
- Side note he didn't miss a beat for me - he limped for me to that clearing. He didn't 'freak' , he calmly walked there in pain. (This part makes me so emotional ) Such a good bond to have. He could have blown up in pain left me there but didn't, he trusted me to know I would help him. ❤️
- We got to the clearing where Matt immediately called the closest vet and took off with Nellie to grab the trailer.
- They placed 30 plus stitches into his hind leg. He was given pain meds and sedation.
- The next few days I went to work. He stayed in a confined area with little Ems. We used the magnawave daily ! 10 minutes to the area and another 10 to 20 minutes on the whole body. Bemer cuffs for 15minutes per leg.We cold hosed 5 to 10 minutes daily. We used CEP restore it on the wound and vetricyn spray, along with Vaseline on the edges of the wound. CEP poultice along the outside of the leg to help with inflammation and swelling! He was given uniprim - bute - gut check - CEP daily lung - vitamin c.
- The magnawave AND bemer cuffs allowed the body to restore itself and heal inside out and allowed the body to drain the way it's supposed to. It's AMAZING.
- Me being a nervous Nellie sent pictures to my vet to ensure this was looking correct and healing correctly. (For some reason we forget everything we know when it's one of our own).
- June 12th the stitches finally came out! But we still had work to do! Continuing our PEMF - creams and spray. My high spirited boy we figured we would have to sedate to take these stitches out, but no he stood like a champ and allowed it. So thankful !
- We then let Tango out to pasture a week after. Put his creams on and aerosol bandage so nothing could get into the area and catch anything.
- I am so thankful that this was just skin - so thankful for the vet in Tyler , MN. So thankful for Matt understanding my concerns and working immediately for the best outcome for Tango. Thankful my Tango buddy allowed me to treat and care for him the best I know. Thankful Tango trusted me this much! Thankful Emmy kept him at bay being in a small area for a month.
- The scar is healing well ! The outta edge is gone, can't even see it ! The middle is healing and closed ! Still continuing to put creams on it to help the scarring when he comes up from pasture. We may always have a scar and the skin may not ever 'smooth' back out and that's okay. He is happy , sane , and sound! That's all that matters. I'm happy with a bad situation turning into a good outcome in the end ! Thankful my horse allowed me to treat him and thankful he trusted me this much.
- Another side note - he told me he was good to go and ready for arena work; we took first in our first sorting back June 29th! It's not about winning really , but that win told me so many things! We did everything right we worked together as a team and we did it ! ❤️
