We are beyond full and absolutely need more help.
In the last 2 weeks we have pulled a mama dog plus ten puppies from a shelter in imperial Valley with no AC and temps over 100 degrees. They were there over two weeks. No one wanted them.
We also have pulled ten others from the same environment and area.
We had received an SOS from Devore shelter in San Bernardino a few days ago asking if we could help a large Great Dane mix with a broken leg . We asked via email what the pups weight was. The reply was 74 pounds.
Then yesterday we received an email telling us that we were listed as a rescue having “expressed interest “ in the big dog and they would need him picked up by 2 pm or he would be euthanized by 5pm
We realized that our reply was the difference between life and death for this dog. He had broken one of his front legs while at the shelter but has no behavioral issues.
We said “yes.” We would accept him. Just didn’t have the heart to have him die knowing no one cared.
We cared. Got an extension from the shelter and drove 150 miles round trip to pick him up this morning.
He was exhausted. He was dirty. He smelled bad. But, he wasn’t dead!
We have named him Frank Sinatra , or Sinatra , in short due to his piecing blue eyes.
What a difference 24 hours can make!
He left the shelter. Got a bath. Got to go potty and get a drink. Then fell asleep.
The last photo is of him passed out asleep not realizing how close he came to dying yesterday.
Just because we said “YES.”
